BACKSTORY:
BACKSTORY: Got up around 8:15AM, made it out driving by 8:44AM, and went out until ~12:45PM, for a total of 4 hours. Spent $33.35 plus ~$8.37 gas for 47.1 miles of driving (16.4 mpg @ $2.94/G), for a total cost of $41.72. We drove to 59 yard sales, stopping at 23 (39%) of them. We made 24 purchases (27 items) for a total estimated value of $235.08, leading to a profit/savings of $193.36. So in essence, we multiplied our $41.72 investment by 5.63X. (Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $~220 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $193 in cash that we saved. How long does $220 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 4 hrs we spent here?) Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $48.25/hr as a couple or $24.13/hr per person.

Billy and I spent the last day of 2008 running a few errands, a little flickring and catching up with some far-away friends on the phone. Traditionally, I used to throw a couple steaks on the grill, but since it was buried under a foot of snow I decided to broil them.
Billy helped out in the kitchen and Cheyenne was close by in case we dropped anything. Much to her dismay we didn't, but being New Year's Eve, she was thrilled to get some tasty grizzle as she patiently waited, salivating under the dining room table more like Pavlov's dog than mine . Actually, I think I saw Billy salivating too, so I guess dinner was pretty good or he was just really hungry.
After dinner, the snow was falling outside in such a beautiful way and the streets were quiet, so we decided to bundle up, brave the cold and walk down to my dad's house just before midnight to surprise him and watch the ball drop togther. It made Dad's night.
Walking home, Billy got the biggest kick out of the way the snow would squeek under our feet as we walked. He giggled with almost every step. Fifty-three going on thirteen. That made my night.
After we walked back to our place I suggested making angels in the snow. (okay, I'm a dork) Billy was quick to nix that idea for some dessert, a bit of scrabble (kindred spirits) and a fire. Yep... By the little bit of meringue on the end of his nose, I think that made his night.
So as I write these words and think about the last few hours, I can't help but remember sweet moments during the last year and all those friends who have filled so much of it with wonderful things that I never want to forget. I hope something or someone made their night and your night too.

ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano waves from the bus that will transport him and his crewmates from the Cosmonaut Hotel to Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Luca, NASA astronaut Drew Morgan and Roscosmos cosmonaut and Soyuz commander Alexander Skvortsov will be launched in their Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on Saturday 20 July. This date coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing and marks the start of Luca’s second space mission known as ‘Beyond’.
While in orbit, Luca will support over 50 European experiments and more than 200 international experiments. He is also expected to perform a number of spacewalks to repair the cooling systems of dark matter hunter, AMS-02.
More information about Luca’s Beyond mission is available on the blog. This will be updated throughout his mission, with updates also shared on Twitter via @esaspaceflight.

The Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, also known as Il Fontanone or Mostra dell'Acqua Paola, is a monumental fountain located on the Janiculum Hill, near the church of San Pietro in Montorio, in Rome, Italy. It was built in 1612 to mark the end of the Acqua Paola aqueduct, restored by Pope Paul V, and took its name from him.
Let every man praise the bridge that carries him over. In this case it's an unusual woman/bridge hybrid and has carried him from one side of Antartica to the other. Now whilst this bridge may not appear entirely practical it still lets you traverse from one side of a continent to the other, which is certainly something considering how much capital building projects of this size tend to cost. Although saying that it's not exactly apparent how you are meant to disembark from the bridge when you reach her face. It would seem perhaps some kind of nose ladder would possibly be in order. Either that or i've mixed my metaphors entirely and was trying to get across the notion that 'behind every great man is a great woman'. I'm not entirely sure myself...

Managed to capture him in one of his more peaceful moods
his mate had an injured foot and he was very protective toward her.
We were stuck in one Saturday during August, as we had a man round to paint the front of our house. Tim has done it in the past, but isn't keen on the heights, so I persuded him to get a man in!! So while we were home, Tim, JJ and I decided to get out some pens and pencils and have an arty-farty session!

「無論台灣是否要發展核電，都請先將放置於蘭嶼近10萬桶的核廢料依約及尊重人道的信念，先運回台灣任何一個願意承擔的鄉鎮或角落貯存，畢竟這是本島上多數人的共業，既是共業就要共同承擔，否則無以面對蘭嶼達悟族人在過去為全體國人，所作的犧牲和未來心理上時時面臨的煎熬不寧。」

我想這篇文章並沒有額外的訓條，因為這些數字，就是不爭的事實。
我有一兩位原住民朋友，他們來自不同的族系與部落，他們是很夠朋友的朋友！！
這麼說好了，朋友的定義已經不足形容我對他們的喜愛。
對我而言，他們已經不是朋友、而是兄弟、是姐妹、
是沒有血緣的父親與母親！！！
「家園」的觀念和精神，給原住民兄弟的價值，
是一種不可割捨的血肉，因為那是活在他們身上的另一條命。
然而，我們正在用科技生活之名、行荼殺之實。
這種看不見刀槍的畫面，要經過多年後才能見識它的殘忍。
我常想：台灣願意紀念許多傷害過的紀念日、卻不肯對自己背骨的承諾挽救、
不肯對無辜受威脅的「兄弟們」伸出援手，那些紀念日，倒底是在紀念誰？
我想.....也許是紀念隨時陪著蘭嶼人一起掛掉的我們吧？
以前看反核，是一種懵懂的感受。
對它的解釋，認為是由太多激情、及個人英雄色彩所構成。
但人越老、就越怕死，當處於不利於己的環境時，便會覺得受到威脅、
變得恐慌、害怕而反擊。
這是所有生物的防衛機制，我現在就是在這樣的情緒當中。
因為我知道，受到輻射污染、不會讓我變成美國超人，而是攸關性命的危害，

That remark earns him a slap in the belly from Candinha. Aidan stiffles a laugh as best he can.

Aidan (To Dee): “You didn't even say yes yet...”
Fiach: “So ye won't marry her, then?”
Aidan: “Of course I will! I lost count how many times I asked her...”
Fiach ponders in silence a while. “A word or two with ye, Mac Diarmuid. Lasses, please...”
Candinha: “You promised...” Slaps him hard in the butt and takes her daughter by the hand.
Dee blows Aidan a kiss as they leave.
Como é que é - So what?
Day 112 - Evil Pinocchio. I meant to design a photo for this Evil Pinocchio as well as the other figures, but I ran out of time, so I have been waiting to post my figures. This evil pinocchio features a custom nose for an angry Pinocchio (for you see, little did he know that when the Blue Fairy turned him into a real boy, she forgot to tell him that if he lied, his nose would continue to grow, and after years of lying, his new appendage was unsightly and angered him. Due to this, he created a remote control figure to drill into Gepettos head, and surgically install a wooden nose with leaves.
A great run ot in the first pre-season match for Longridge with many trialists showing their potential. Ten goals including a hat-trick for Paul Turner who is looking like he will have a great season in front of him.
Apparently this guy (gal?) was seen flying around my area for the past few weeks. Finally got to spot him yesterday, and was lucky to have my camera with me.
Another one from Lee Creek on the Great Salt Lake, but not too different from the image I posted previously. It was too dark to shoot a single image, so I doubled up! And if the blue tones don't give it away, it was extremely cold out there that night. This developed in a warm cold clip in my husband's pocket and it still turned blue.
