This summer there were not too many days like this in Switzerland - beautiful weather and perfect hiking conditions. This time between Frutigen and Adelboden, Bernese Oberland.

Thank you for your visits / comments / faves!

One of my favorite hikes.

Friday's here! Enjoy a wonderful day and weekend!

We met these sheep on a mountain ridge on about 2100m a.s.l. Spending winter down in the valley must feel so boring in contrast to this life!

Hiking at Kerlingarfjöll is a rewarding experience. We got lost for the first time hiking, away from the planned trial, reached to glacier direction, the strong wind and cold weather almost killed us although I wore snow pants and thin down jacket. Here are some tips for hikers at Kerlingarfjöll:

-Research and Plan: research the trails, weather conditions, and any potential hazards in the area.

-Check Weather Conditions: Icelandic weather can be unpredictable. Be prepared for sudden changes in weather and pack appropriate clothing and gear.

-Carry Essential Gear: a sturdy backpack, hiking boots, extra clothing layers, GPS device, food and water.

-Stay on Marked Trails: Stick to marked trails and avoid venturing off into unmarked areas, as it can be easy to get lost in the wilderness.

-Be Mindful of Wildlife: While wildlife encounters are rare in Kerlingarfjöll. Respect the natural habitat and keep a safe distance from any animals you may encounter.

Hiking in Kerlingarfjöll offers a combination of geothermal wonders, colorful landscapes, remote wilderness, and stunning views, making it a special and memorable experience for outdoor enthusiasts.

Have a wonderful weekend my Flicker friends!

I was returning from my hike through the Alps when the weather started to change rapidly, clouds closing in and rain falling. I was glad to be on my way down. Nonetheless I took a quick picture of this lovely autumn scene.

Pinevalley hike pano, with a dream effect, Orton effect and layers

Wish you a good weekend. Labor Day weekend for the US and Canada!

From our hike at Lost Dutchman State Park yesterday. We got to the park about 1/2 hour before sunrise. The temperature was very pleasant for hiking at 54°F (~12°C). This shot was about 5 minutes after sunrise and I always like how the sun just kisses the mountaintops in the background. Of course Jasper's happy face makes it even better. We only take Jasper off leash for the photos. Too many tempting things to chase like jackrabbits, deer and javelina. Once the chase instinct kicks in for Jasper, recall goes out the window.

We took a shorter hike along part of the Ice Age Trail today. It just dipped into the 30’s for the first time a few nights ago and we’re loving that the mosquitoes are finally gone! The smell of decaying leaves and pine was incredible on this hike, as were the golden colors.

Hiking on petrified sandstone. Temperatures in 60-70s!

Much of one of my favorite hiking areas - the Gaasperplaspark - is now closed off for one of those summer music festivals. So I had to keep to the perimeters. No great hardship that. Lots of Queen Anne's Lace, various Grasses, Buttercups and everywhere the wafting sweet of a variety of Wild Roses. But insects were sorely lacking. I did spot this pretty Hoverfly gorging on Buttercup. If you look carefully you'll see just how large its 'snout' is; hence the Greek scientific name.

The weather forecast almost prevented us from going but we took the chance and were rewarded with this. Colorado, USA

Sometimes it's better to hike out to where the waves are breaking than to paddle out there. But, you have to deal with the cliffs while carrying your board.
