We caught the opening of Mark Warren Jacques solo show entitled "I'm Here Now" at Gallery Hijinks and were please with the quality and thoughtfulness that each work presented.
Jacques takes the viewer on an inward journey filled with colorful patternwork and interesting subject matter, that both enlightens and delights.

In Jacques own words:
"There is a deeply rooted part of who I am that connects to, and in turn collects all this beauty I happen upon in the world. I draw from this collection every time I sit to paint. I feel inspired to insert my own vision into this narrative, to put the collection in order, so that I may create my story - a story that brings history close but is alive with new possibilities."
The show runs October 16th - November 15th 2010 at Gallery Hijinks:

Friends of Mosman Art Gallery, 8 December 2011
The Mosman Art Gallery was awash with the sights and sounds of the sea when the Friends gathered in December 2011 for a Highjinks on the High Seas Christmas celebration.
Smartly attired naval officers, a crusty crew of sailors, and a band of motley pirates were among those who filled the gallery space where they feasted upon festive food, drank a few pints, spun a yarn or two and danced to the seafaring songs performed by the live band, Loose Juice.
During the night, the gallery’s seafaring Friends were treated to a tour of “Ship to Shore: 11th National Australian Society of Marine Artists” presented by the Gallery Guides. ‘Twas certainly a night of swashbuckling fun!

I met Peter Gronquist about a year ago and immediatly connected to this out-of-the-box thinker and artist. Gronquist is well known for his Gucci rocket launchers, chain saws, and other art works that feature high end brand names on weapons of destruction. No stranger to utilyzing taxidermy in his works, where animal's horns have been replaced by gold plated AK-47s, Gronquist continues to juxtapose luxury with nature while bringing up questions about money, culture, and society.

Oh, the things that can happen when you're drunk & stupid on your birthday. Proof that 33 years old IS too old to play football. While drunk. In the wee hours of the morning.

Someone has placed 2 small stones that have been painted to look like eyeballs into this big rock in our condo complex and made it look like a face. Happy Halloween!

Joel Watson from the webcomic Hijinks Ensue strikes a pose in my Rocketeer helmet. He had a pretty bad sore throat at the time, and a post on his comic claims that he could have been Patient Zero for the ECCC con-crud. If that is the case, then I'm a leading contagion vector, as I was letting anyone and everyone try on the helmet after Joel!
It's worth pointing out, however, that I didn't get sick at all from ECCC, so maybe Joel just has a case of man-flu, and wasn't really all that ill, the big baby.

Beau Stanton's work is decorative, surreal, and a bit cryptic upon closer inspection. The Brooklyn native released his latest body of work at Gallery Hijinks in San Francisco entitled "Sanguine Machine", which highlights Stanton's skills as a painter and artist. For the past few years, Beau has honed his artistic talent while playing the role of assistant to pop surrealist Ron English. There is no doubt that there has been a bleed over in ideas and methods, and it is clear Beau has applied what he's learned and evolved it into his own aesthetic. Overall his work is extremely strong, with an eye for the details and strong composition, this is most definetely an artist to keep an eye on.
