I love watching the hustle and bustle around an aircraft at the airport. Helsinki's Vantaa airport is light and spacious, with lots of facilities, and never seems crowded. You notice that passengers are either Nordic or Asian, particularly Chinese and Japanese., and this reflects the Finnair routes in the world.
I only have one grumble about travelling to Helsinki. Our Finnair flight to and from Manchester always departs or arrives through the furthest gate, in the furthest terminal from either entry point or exit point if you are using a hire car. Even if the aircraft taxis to a stand near Terminal 1, a bus takes you all the way back over the tarmac to the furthest gate in the furthest terminal so that you have to walk all the way back from the furthest gate at the furthest terminal to get back to the car hire pick up point!
But otherwise, using Finnair and Helsinki airport is a pleasure.
Helsinki Cathedral was originally built from 1830-1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. It was also known as St Nicholas' Church until the independence of Finland in 1917. The façade is fronted by a statue of Emperor Alexander II of Russia.
A distinctive landmark in the Helsinki cityscape, with its tall, green dome surrounded by four smaller domes, the building is in the neoclassical style. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel as the climax of his Senate Square layout: it is surrounded by other, smaller buildings designed by him.
The building was later altered by Engel's successor Ernst Lohrmann, whose four small domes emphasise the architectural connection to the cathedral's model, Saint Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Today, the cathedral is one of Helsinki's most popular tourist attractions.

Helsinki is definitely one of my top 5 cities in Europe. Helsinki is not so hectic, but rather a bit cosy. For me, it's a wonderful mix of nature and city. The air is clear and it's not too hot.
The neoclassical, Helsinki Cathedral, towering over the neighbourhood of Kruununhaka in the center of Helsinki, Finland. The cathedral with its striking design is visible from most parts of the city. It was built between 1824 and 1826 and designed by Carl Ludvig Engel.

The old town area of Helsinki where there is an old hydro-electric power station that used the flow of the river Vantaa.
Finland is famed for its streamlined, functional, stylish design. In the 20th century, pioneers such as Alvar and Aino Aalto cemented its reputation, and the capital remains the country's creative hub. Helsinki's design scene is one of the most electrifying in the world today, and a major influence across the globe.
