The Three Smiths Statue is a sculpture by Felix Nylund, situated in Helsinki in Three Smiths Square at the intersection of Aleksanterinkatu and Mannerheimintie. This realistic statue, unveiled in 1932, depicts three smiths hammering on an anvil. The smiths are naked.
The top part of the bronze statue's granite base is encircled by the Latin text MONUMENTUM – CURAVIT – LEGATUM – J. TALLBERGIANUM – PRO HELSINGFORS A.D. MCMXXXII ("The statue was erected with the help of a donation from J. Tallberg by Pro Helsingfors in the year 1932"). The statue was donated to the city of Helsinki by the Pro Helsingfors foundation, which had acquired it with the help of a monetary donation by the businessman Julius Tallberg. Tallberg's commerce house is situated at the northern end of the three smiths square.
The statue was damaged in a bombing during the Continuation War in 1944. Marks of the damage can still be seen in the base of the statue, and the anvil has a hole caused by a bomb shrapnel.
The Three Smiths Statue is a popular meeting place, the Green League has often located their election campaign quarters next to it and a Peruvian street music orchestra has performed in the area on many summers.

Helsinki is the capital of Finland. Founded in 1550, the "Daughter of the Baltic" has been the Finnish capital since 1812, when it was rebuilt by the tsars of Russia along the lines of a miniature St. Petersburg, a role it has played in many a Cold War movie. Today, Helsinki pulls off the trick of being something of an international metropolis while still retaining a small-town feel. The best time to visit is in summer, when Finns peel off their overcoats and flock to outdoor bars and cafes to enjoy the sunshine.
Helsinki is the capital city of Finland, which has been named the world's happiest country for the last five years.

It was the first -25 degrees Celcius in Helsinki this winter and the sea wasn't frozen yet. When the cool air and water met it looked like the whole scenery was boiling.
The Art Nouveau Helsinki Central Station. Quite a difficult building to photograph with all the street furniture and cables so this side-on angle from up the street was the best I could find.

Helsinki Cathedral (1852) stands majestically above Senate Square in the center of Helsinki, Finland. This Evangelical Lutheran church was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel in the neoclassical style.
Overnight Helsinki was covered in snow, but the ever efficient Fins were already on the job to keep the city ticking. We'd seen some enormous snow ploughs around Finland, but for the smallest corners they also have these nifty bobcat like snow ploughs... Continued...
