Hell's Pit (Poço do Inferno) is a waterfall about 10 meters high, one of Serra da Estrela ex libris in Portugal.
The caves run deep into the hillside above West Wycombe village and directly beneath St Lawrence's Church and Mausoleum (which were also constructed by Sir Francis Dashwood around the same time the caves were excavated). West Wycombe Park, ancestral seat of the Dashwood family and also a National Trust property, lies directly across the valley. The caves' striking entrance, designed as the façade of a mock gothic church and built from flint and chalk mortar, which was erected in around 1752, can be viewed directly from West Wycombe House.

A trip to Hells Gate Lighthouse situated at the dangerous narrow and shallow entrance to Macquarie Harbour, Tasmania. 'Hells Gate', however, was so-called by the convicts shipped there after British colonisation where some places in Australia were used as harsh penal colonies.
The one here was Sarah island, the notorious Macquarie Harbour Penal Station (1822-1833), housing the so-called 'worst' convicts, those who had reoffended or who had escaped from other settlements. It was separated from the mainland by the wide expanse of river, surrounded by a mountainous wilderness and was hundreds of miles away from the colony's other settled areas. Impossible to escape in any durable way.
Indeed, the only mob of convicts, who actually escaped the penal settlement, when in the dense forest (or bush) ran out of food, and ended up eating each other in desperation of being unable to get very far and in not wanting to return to the jail to get mercilessly flogged. Looking across Hells Mouth, Porth Neigwl, down Cardigan Bay to the mountains of mid-Wales, early morning. Been on a weeks holiday down to the tip of the Llyn Peninsula.

Hell's Gate is an abrupt narrowing of British Columbia's Fraser River, located immediately downstream of Boston Bar in the southern Fraser Canyon. The towering rock walls of the Fraser River plunge toward each other forcing the waters through a passage only 35 metres wide.
