Gap of hell in Fjällbacka

Besuch in der Hölle! Eiskalt, was auch sonst!!

The Flügelaltar mit dem Jüngsten Gericht / Wing Alter of the Last Judgment, around 1525, in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin is a remarkable artwork worthy of close-up study. Cranach painted this accurate copy of Hieronymus Bosch’s altar (now in Vienna) probably on commission from the Elector of Saxony. The small section on the Garden of Eden is fairly normal but the rest of the work is literally hell on earth.

The devil really is in the details here. Men and women stripped naked are tortured and punishment in all kind of ways by devils and beasts. Naked bodies are tormented in multitudes in hell while only very few souls are saved to ascend to heaven.

This really is hell on earth as the actual entrance to hell is painted on the right panel. Apparently the male / female balance is quite neutral and a logical progression from a couple sinning in paradise and being chased out into the world.

It is quite interesting to compare Bosch’s vision of hell with other paintings in the museum, especially those by Italian painters that were strongly influenced by Dante.

The Gemäldegalerie (Painting Gallery) in Berlin is one of the largest and best Old Master's art museums in the world. Top highlights include early German artists, Flemish painters, and the Dutch Golden Age (16 Rembrandt paintings). The Italian collection is equally impressive with a fantastic Renaissance display by all major artists and fine works from the Baroque and Rococo eras.

This isn't actually called Hell's Canyon, but it mind as well been! Tons of beautiful things to photograph, but absolutely no where to pull over. So frustrating!!!!!

Hells Gates is the name of the mouth of Macquarie Harbour on the West Coast of Tasmania, Australia.

It is a notoriously shallow and dangerous channel entrance to the harbour. The actual channel is between Macquarie Heads on the west and Entrance Island on the east (the main length of the harbour runs southeast of Hells Gates). There is a wider area of water between Entrance Island and the eastern shore, but it is too shallow to get a boat over.

Braddon Point is the name of the feature on the eastern shore, while the shallow water south of the point is named Fraser Flats, and the channel adjacent to the breakwater is known as Kelly Channel.

The name of the channel relates to the original convicts' claim that it was their point of "entrance to Hell", their Hell being the Macquarie Harbour Penal Station on Sarah Island and the outlying surrounds of the harbour.

Breakwater and channel

Between 1900 and 1902 the Macquarie Harbour Entrance Works involved the building of a breakwater and the channel was dredged. Parts of the breakwater can still be seen despite the passage of time. The Strahan Marine Board was involved with the monitoring of the mouth until 19 May 1970, when the Hobart Marine Board took over.

Both Entrance and Bonnet Islands have lights, and they were built before the Cape Sorell Lighthouse.

I shot these for a movie where the camera was the gateway to hell. Think Antonioni's Blow Up, meets Lucio Fulci's The Beyond. (and if you havent seen both of these movies, I'm very dissapointed. go now!) Basically the camera sucked out their souls and trapped them in the film.

WHEN THE JOURNEY ENDS?

Even the lives of the autos are in jeopardy of

going to hell--the scrapyards where their body

is crushed for the vital elements, leaving the tiny

artifacts, things that might be called organs otherwise,

in tact to suffer compression as though it were a human body

being sealed in a casket and then a vault.

Oh, the misery of death, so like the scrap metal business?

Could we not have the end of a journey

ending in such pain and misery? Could not we simply

buy a new battery and roll back the odometer?

The Hells Angels MC were in Newquay on our last weekend.

The bikes weren't as custom as I'd hoped, but the paintjobs were superb. Anyways if you want to see proper custom stuff North Lincs hold a custom bike show on 18th July.
