The Bohermeen AC Patrick Bell 5KM Road Race, Jog, Walk, and Fun Run was held at Bohermeen AC, Ardbracan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Saturday 8th June 2013 at 19:30. The race was held in very warm sunshine with little or no breeze - the most perfect summer evening. The race commemorates Patrick Bell, the late Bohermeen clubman who died tragically in the summer of 1985 following a traffic accident, whilst returning home from Cork having competed in the National track championships. The wonderful atmosphere, the great racing and participation, the work by the club, Meath Athletics, the local community, and the wonderful weather is, yet again, a fitting tribute to Patrick's memory and his contribution to Athletics in Ireland. Congratulations to everyone involved. Everything that is good about grassroots athletics and running in Ireland was on show in Bohermeen tonight.

This is a set of photographs from the start and the end of the race.

The race starts justs meters away from the Bohermeen AC track and makes a right handed course around some beautiful rural country roads and turns back to Bohermeen Village and then back for the final kilometer which is straight to the track and the finish on about 60 meters of athletics track.

Last year (2012) almost 750 people took part in the event this was better again this year with over 800 taking part.

This is a set of photographs from the start and the end of the race.

Electronic timing was provided by Precision Timing [www.precisiontiming.net].

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

CAIU NA REDE

Enquanto o ouriço sorri para os convidados, Dona girafa vai "caguetando" os podres:

- Aquela senhora no canto, Tia Pepita.

Me dá uma garrafinha aí! Tô precisando de um gole!

The Grand opening of the new F1 Race Circuit in Thailand was held on the 4th and 5th of October. The Circuit is designed by Hermann Tilke who is well known for designing F1 Circuits all over the world and in Thailand he designed the circuit with the spectators in kind. The Circuit is 4554 Mtrs Long and was originally called “Buriram United International Circuit”, but the huge interest in the Circuit and the fact that is located in the heart of “The Chang Area”, the name of the circuit was changed was Chang Beer became the title sponsor of the track, and its now called Chang International Circuit.

The Circuit is the first F1 that is designed so the spectators from the grandstand and see the whole track layout and follow the cars racing all the way around on the track.

The Circuit also holds a world records for being the fastest constructed FIA Grade 1 Circuit in the world. From the day when the construction was started until the day when it was completed and the FIA certificate was handed over it took only 422 days which is more than 60 days faster than the previous record.

CEA Racing which is the race team that Inspire sponsors was invited to the inaugural race weekend, and joined the Support race for the Japanese Super GT cars.

Since the last race of the season in the Pro Racing Series will be held at the New Buriram Circuit on the 22nd and 23rd of November the team decided to use this opportunity to test and get to know the track.

The Driver & Team owner of CEA Racing Thomas Raldorf explained that he ran simulations between the Sepang F1 Circuit and other Circuits he knew with long straights and then used a computer program to calculate the gear ratio’s that would be needed for the track.

The Team then setup the car to what they believe would be the best setup for the track, to have a starting point.

After having arrived and setup the pit for the race team it was time to drive on the track for the first time, and what an experience that was.

Thomas explained that the layout was really nice and that the track was made with nice curbs that was easy to ride and that the initial gear ratio calculations seemed to be spot on. This was also clearly noted as the team was fastest in Practice 1 out of all 34 cars.

In qualifying the team only managed to qualify 4th which they were not happy with at all. A review of the qualification showed several of the other cars going very wide at some corners and actually leaving the track to be able to keep higher corner speed, but nothing was done about it.

Race one was more of the same with the cars going wide everywhere and the team dropped 1 further place.

Between the 2 races the drivers were called into a special drivers meeting and the definition of the track limits was made clear to them and Race 2 became a much closer event.

CEA Racing’s car had a great start in Race 2 but was caught out in the 2nd corner and there were some very close racing with some pushing and bumping around and side mirrors folding in…Then it was an 800 Mtr run side by side down towards the next corner in a fight for the 4th place, but with CEA Racing being on the outside and half a car length down on number 4 into a high speed corner it was even closer and with some more paint swapping.

During this the car in 6th had moved into the inside and made a dive to take the 2 positions but hit the car in 4th sending Thomas in 5th right off the track to avoid getting hit and joining in 6th place.

Due to a delay the race was only 5 laps long and Thomas never had a chance to regain his position and finished the race in 6th place.

After the race the Team was very focused although visibly disappointed. Thomas said “Okay, Now we know the track and we know where we will need to improve, so we need to go home and do our homework and come back stronger and fight for the win next time”.

On the 17th, 18th and 19th of October there is a new race at the Circuit and CEA Racing will also join that event to try out the improvements they have done to the car and then they cam make the final adjustments to it before the Championship deciding race of the Pro Racing Series happens in the end of November.

The Wexford Half Marathon and 10KM Road Race and Fun Run was held in Wexford Town, Co. Wexford, Ireland at 10:30 and 10:40 on Sunday 21st April 2013. There was a huge attendance at this race. The weather didn't start off as the runners would have wished with very heavy April showers making for a wet start. However, these showers cleared and a bright sunny day greeted runners in both races for the finish.

We did not take part in this race but feedback from runners was very positive about the race overall.

This is a selection of photographs which includes: the start of both races, the finish of the 10KM and finishers of the half marathon until about 1:50 finishing time.

Timing was provided by Red Tag Timing.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: Approximately 1,000 people over both races (700 in the half marathon and over 300 in the 10KM)

Weather: Started off wet but both races finished with dry sunny weather.

Course: A very well marshalled course around the town of Wexford and surrounding areas.

Refreshments: There was water, bananas and soup & rolls at the finish.

Timing: Both races 10KM and Half Marathon were electronically timed using chip timing provided by RedtagTiming (www.redtagtiming.com/).

Live @ Bergenfest 2014

Held at the Pasadena Hilton on November 25-27, 1988.

This is a photograph from the first running of the Killyon 5KM Fun Run and Walk which was held at Moran's, Hill-of-Down, Killyon, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 22nd June 2014 at 11:00. The run was organised to raise funds for the Killyon National School Building Fund. This was a very well organised event. The whole Killyon/Hill-of-Down community were out in force helping with every aspect of the race organisation. Race Headquarters was Moran's Pub ("The Hill").

The race started on a local boreen about 1.5KM from the Finish Area. The run then proceeded on a clockwise direction over the Hill-of-Down to Langan's Cross. Taking a right here the run went to the next Canal bridge at Ballasport. The final 1.5KM were run on the beautiful bank of the Royal Canal which brought participants back up to Moran's and the finish line. Interestingly the race crossed the Canal twice and crossed over and under the Dublin Sligo Railway line. Hill-of-Down was once a station on this railway but closed in the 1960s. No trace of the station remains today.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the race and on it's first running this turned out as a brilliant success. The event will hopefully become an annual event.

We have a large set of photographs from today's race. They are available on our Flickr account at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157644887755947/

The 2nd annual Meath Spring Half Marathon (sponsored by Generali PanEurope) was organised and held at Bohermeen AC, Ardbraccan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday March 3rd 2013 at 12:00. A 5KM race was also held on the day. This year a very large crowd of over 1,000 athletes turned out to compete on the day. The race has already increased in numbers since last year. Overall, this was a fantastic event and brilliantly organised by one of Ireland's oldest and most famous athletic clubs. The race is very well positioned in the running calendar for those who are preparing for a Spring Marathon.

The weather was perfect for 5KM and Half Marathon running with many personal bests and goals achieved for many people in both races.

This is a selection of photographs of the 1st lap pass of the finish and then the finish of half marathon. There are some 5KM photographs. Unfortunately we only had one camera on course today.

Katherine Readey Chilcote, Co-Founder, describes the Cleveland Colectivo model, a replicable, process driven open network of giving formed in 2005 with a circle of like-minded friends who wanted to invest in early stage creative enterprises for a positive impact on their city.

“The Cleveland Colectivo is a Giving Circle. We are a group of community members most of whom live in the City of Cleveland, Ohio USA and we give small grants to organizations who are their very early stages.”

I met Judith when I went to hear some friends sing in a small concert held in a café in Nîmes. I brought my camera and offered to take photos so they would all have a souvenir of the event, and they agreed.

Judith, initially from Buenos Aires, teaches singing, and this group of particpants had been working on singing Argentine tangos, waltzes, milongas and folklore. I was very impressed with the idea that she encouraged everyone to sing, no matter what their musical abilities, even to the extreme of having someone hearing-impaired very joyfully express himself, flanked by his fellows singing softly with him to help him stay in tune. (see the photos below). I spoke to her after the concert to express my appreciation (I would have gladly joined the group if I lived full time in that region!!), and propose to send her the photos I'd taken. Although I took these shots to give to my friends, I later wrote to Judith to ask her if she would participate in my challenge(s), and she very generously agreed.

Thank you, Judith for your warmth, generosity and dedication to your art!

Of course, any helpful suggestions for improvement are gratefully accepted.

I ran the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set!

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

If you want to contribute something for these images?

We do not charge for these images. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the image(s) you request are good enough that you would ordinarily pay for their purchase we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
