Loading two heavy lift cases on board of the SAL operated "Grietje" (IMO 9147708).
The cases measure 17,44m x 6,72m x 6,96m and weigh over 244 metric tons and are destined for South Korea.
They were loaded using two 200 ton capacity Gottwald cranes working in tandem.
ALE Heavylift performed a movement of an electrical transformer weighing in at around 230 tonnes from Stella (Blaydon) to Wallsend overnight from 15th August to 16th August. On arrival at Swan Hunters in Wallsend it's to be shipped by barge to Ellesmere Port where it will be put back on the road to be taken to its destination of Oldbury. Seen at the North End of the Tyne Tunnel at East Howdon, the convoy is seen waiting to continue along Hadrian Road to Wallsend. The move was powered by a pair of ALE Trojan 8870 trucks with BX64KSE at the front with BX65OAW powering from the rear.
One of three 180 tonne tranformers on route from ThamesPort, Isle of Grain to the new Grain Power Station, Isle of Grain. The gross weight of the whole combination is approx. 290 tons. The transformer was moved on a 22 axle Scheuele SPMT. A 12 axle line was connected next to 10 axle lines and power pack. The journey from the port to site of only 1.8 miles took an hour and thirty minutes. Due to the size of the load, a particular stretch of road had to be completly closed for approx 50 minutes with police and council permission but without police or council assistance and much to the anger of the local residents of the village of Grain, as the stretch of road was the only way in and out of the village. The load was moved during daylight because the electricity board had to isolate then lift an overhead cable which was not allowed to be done at night. Once unloaded, the SMPT had to be moved back to ThamesPort for the next transformer. The load was escorted by Teahan Abnormal Load Escort Services.
