My final shots of the Apache 800 being placed on display at the Navajo County Historical Society grounds.

With the brake chain reattached and the handwheel spun tight, the 800 is now secured in place. A project that began in the winter of 2024 with some casual conversation, has been completed in the summer of 2025. It has been quite an accomplishment to get to this point and all the parties involved deserve a hand for making this happen.

Buyrilia III is a planet wherein the surface is fully covered by a gigantic mall, the biggest in the whole southern quadrant. And it's only 45 light years from Outpost Alpha.

"I'm going out for awhile" Kelly said. "I'm bringing Robbie with me". Big mistake! Only few hours later, when Kelly came back, Benny realized that it was Black Friday!!

Poor Mr. Robot! It wasn't built for such heavy lifting...

Dismantling a tower crane in downtown Oklahoma City.

A little less than a month ago, it was moving day for the Apache Railway's RS36 #800. The unit was donated to the Navajo County Historical Society last year and they worked to have it painted into the as delivered paint scheme that it arrived in back in September 1962. The Society worked with Southwest Industrial Rigging to perform the heavy lift, and it went very well throughout the process.

It was a great opportunity for me to witness the crews work to prep and then fly the 800 off its trucks and onto a lowboy for the short move to the display site. The 160-ton crane moved the gutted shell of the locomotive with ease and precision onto the trailer. After it was blocked up and secured for movement, the trucks went onto another trailer. Each truck weighed 26 tons per one of the crew members, but I didn't get the weight of the 800 unfortunately.

More pictures of the move coming over the next few days.

No sooner had 77188 left for it's journey back to the U.S than USAF C-17 77173 arrived from Mildenhall in Suffolk to collect the last of President Biden's VH-3s to take home. I'd been wanting to get this shot for a couple of weeks with all the comings and goings at the airfield but ample warning is needed to get into position on West End Lane. As it happens I'd seen 77188 fly in while at home so headed down to the fence at the end of the airfield hoping to catch the second one which I was sure would be arriving. The police didn't even bother to reopen the road but kept it closed after 77188 departed, for this arrival. Apparently this one came in a little high as previous arrivals had been a few feet from the hedge in the bottom of the picture. The STOL performance of the C-17 was amply demonstrated though as it landed with full reverse thrust half way down Northolts (short) runway and reversed onto the taxi way like someone backing into a parking spot! I had the camera on full auto and just kept shooting as it came over our heads. This was one of the better shots. Next time I'll stand further back and try and get some of the ground in for scale.

I like this photo as there is only one man in it. This street market takes you to the downtown "Iron Market" built in the 1930's. This is where you come for all your fresh food - 12 city blocks. Every morning, these vendors - all women, move their produce onto the streets and into the market - no small feat. Men help and men work here, but these women do the lion's share of the work by far and it is serious heavy lifting... and then the selling, all day in the heat and sun. At the end of the day, they pack it all up, move it and do it again the next day... seven days a week. This shot was taken at 7:15 AM. The women set up just after sunrise... by 10:00 AM it's hard to walk through here... but the sights, the sounds, the smell... 2 much fun...

Haitian women don't sit around. They raise their families and then get after it outside the home also... they literally more than pull their weight. I do enjoy walking through here at least once every couple of weeks and suffering their friendly (mostly) cajoling...
