Finding some sun for a winter snow camp. Headed East to Blewett Pass and hiked up towards the southern saddle. Pitched camp in about two feet of snow. We were with another family and E and their kiddo spent hours sledding. Good weather, not too cold.

I liked how the headlamp illuminated the boiling water and the small area around the cook pot. The red in the steam is from another headlamp with the red beam setting on.
That's my camping stove and pan boiling some water for a nice hot brew of tea. As I stood there in the flickring blue gaslight I thought I might at least get a shot of it. I used my headlamp to light up the water while the light of the gas flames took care of the kitchen worktop. I love the bokeh and dof of the Canon f1.8 50mm lens!
We've only just now got our power back on after 6 hours of sitting in silence and candlelight, listening to the utterly mental, storm winds rip their way over and around the houses, whistling and screeching like berserk banshees as they did so. It's still battering against the windows and howling through trees and hedges as I sit and type but at least now it doesn't seem like it's going to smash its way in and rearrange me and the furniture! The last time I experienced winds anywhere near to those that have given Cheshire a good spanking this evening was in the Great Storm of '87. And I now have a black binbag liner, flapping from my aerial like some morbid flag of truce I've put up to pacify the very pissed off winds. To be honest, as much as it's caused a lot of distress, destruction and chaos for many people, I do love it when nature gets freaky and raw, it puts things into perspective whilst impressing and exciting the hell out of me.
Still, we got off lightly this evening compared to those down in the flooded South and along the coast, I hope everyone there is safe, warm and dry tonight.
Sorry if my appearances on your streams has been sporadic or non-existent, I updated my iMac operating system (Snow Leopard) by two distinct versions (Lion and Mountain Lion OS) at the beginning of last week and it's played havoc with flickr and other websites, including some progs I've got installed, two of which no longer work under the new Apple regime. Things seem to be running ok at last – apart from irritating smartarse OS alerts popping up everywhere – and another down side is that I'm now getting the latest version of the old flickr page with that damned annoying 'Try our new photo experience beta' message straddling people's posts. I've tried it. Don't like it. Go away. Now.
Anyway, I shall be in full flickr mode from tomorrow onwards and troubling the still waters of your streams once more with my ramblings...the mighty Lord VoldeApple allowing, that is! Be safe, drive careful tomorrow. :-)
Lost in a field are these old Wolseley cars, forgotten and overgrown. Trees grow where they are left, and many are covered by fallen branches from a storm earlier in the year. Many of them are slowly rusting away, and at some point in the past look to have been used for spares, engines are missing, and seats and other parts long gone. The tide of nettles is rising, and soon they will be submerged for the summer.
