I just liked the mood here... to me this is what it felt like standing there, watching the weather change from one moment to the next...

Hand-held HDR capture (3 exposures -2 0 +2) tonemapped in Photomatix using the Details Enhancer option, followed by some tweaks I can't remember, and finally a bit of Orton added (to the foreground only) to change the character a little... well, if I'm honest the Orton effect helped to cover-up my camera shake ;-)

Another casualty from the 60's, he probably took way too much LSD. An Iphone 4 HDR capture, pushed through the Flickr App "Wizard" setting. Pretty sure I won't be using that again.

This old boy had a problem with the apeture blades and still might have a problem with the meter, it reacts to light well but doesn't seem to return far enough in low light to stop the next shot being taken. More tinkering is required!

HDR capture - 3 exposures. This house is near the South end of Echo Trail at English Station Road - found this while exploring Floyd's Fork.

Got my Nikon D800 on Friday and I am absolutely loving it! Didn't have a ton of time over the weekend so I did some tests around town. This was my first time trying out the Nikon 16-35mm f/4.0 lens, which immediately felt "right" to me, as I love shooting wide (my Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is one of my favorite lenses on my D80).

I was in this orchard and the dynamic range was out of control, so I decided to try some HDR captures and see how they came out. I'm blown away by the dynamic range capabilities of this camera already, processing these files is a complete joy (well, aside from the processing TIME, which is bogging down my computer a bit at the moment). The tonal range is just incredible. I was also impressed with how sharp these came out, given that I was shooting handheld (my Really Right Stuff L-Bracket will be here on Wednesday).

5-exposure HDR bracketed at 1-stop, Handheld, blended in Photomatix. Additional post-processing in Lightroom 4 (which I am also loving).

Computer Note: Windows Vista, Intel Core i7 920 Overclocked to 3.2GHz, 12GB of RAM.

Processing Time Comparison:

Blending 3 10 megapixel D80 images took about 90 seconds in Photomatix.

Blending 5 36 megapixel D800 images takes about 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

I spent Monday and Tuesday in St. Augustine, FL and visited the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine while I was there. The above was created by setting my EOS 5D Mark III to HDR capture (Auto, 3 shots). Instead of using the in-camera Natural jpeg that was created, I loaded the RAW files into Photomatix Pro 5 for fine tuning the HDR settings. After that, I finished post-processing the image in Photoshop CC.

El Golfo.

I was fortunate enough to be sent to Lanzarote on a conference the other week. I really wish I had a wide angle lens though. This is a three image panaorama, each shot being a three image HDR capture (ie nine images in total). Processed using Photomatix and Hugin.

The sky was fairly washed out, so I decided to 'swap' it with a sky from another image. I'm not entirely sure whether I'm happy doing this or not, since it is no longer the true original image. But then since I process things quite a lot I decided to give it a go.

A little bit of information, the lake/lagoon is green due to microorganisms living in the water and the beach is black due to volcanic ash.
