Birds taking a low tide perch on what would be the bottom of the very right (West) part of Haystack Rock in previous photo. Most of the Brandt's Cormorants seemed to be hanging out on the "needle" but there were a few here (as well as Pelagic Cormorants and Pigeon Guillemots).
One of the few places on the west coast where Tufted Puffins nest, is Haystack rock at Cannon Beach OR. There are about 100 nesting pairs that nest and raise there young on Haystack Rock. Other nesting sites include Protection Island off of Port Townsend. What makes the Puffin difficult to photograph is that they are small birds that nest in burrows that can extend up to 2 meters in the side of mountain. Usually found by boats off the coast of Washington, Oregon and Northern California.
