A lady from the islands sits alone in a near empty church. Taken from a balcony. A moment later " You can't take photos there. I need a clear line of site. Move away!" Spoken like a true sound desk controller. I just nodded as I was moving anyway. Have a thoughtful Friday.

The Mexican Hat is a geological feature situated to the north of the small village of - you guessed it - Mexican Hat.
It is visible from quite a distance when you go north on the 163 once you left Monument Valley behind. It formed, like everything else on the Colorado Plateau, by erosion from wind and water.
It was an overcast morning, but I figured I can still make an image.
I thought it looked cool against the differently colored but crumbling cliff side behind it.
My wife and I argued over whether or not it really looks like a Mexican Hat, meaning like a sombrero, and my point was: Ah, close enough.
Between Monument Valley and Bluff on Hwy163 is the formation known as Mexican Hat Rock.

Happy Slider Sunday!
Not sure I've ever seen anyone wearing a top-hat in real life before. Let alone riding a bike at the same time. Good for him.
For the group Looking close...on Friday theme 'Headwear' My little bumble bee gnome, with his wooly hat! Have a great day and weekend folks ;0)
This wonderful little straw hat belonged to my Granddaddy. He always wore it to church on regular Sundays! I have it sitting on one of my paper collage heads. I think he would get a laugh out of that!

Yes, it is mine...you know how you buy that piece of clothing in a foreign country because it looks so right there but on returning home you realize you will never wear it.
Well one year I was in London in January when Harrods had their crazy clearance sales, and the hat was just so fascinating. The next day the reality of packing it for the return trip hit me and I finally had to give up and wear it home.
This is where it all paid off. While I was waiting to board, the gate counter called me up and asked if I would mind being bumped to FIRST CLASS...not Business, but FIRST CLASS. Would I mind??? Well what an eye opener to see how the privileged travel. Most of my fellow first classer's were a rock band and their leggy blonde girlfriends, but it didn't interfere with my best flight ever (and I have been flying internationally since I was 7). It had to be the HAT! So every now and then I pull the hat from the back closet and dream about being bumped to first class again (which of course has never repeated)...hmm maybe I should start wearing it for all my flights.
Thank you so much for your visit!

Conrail 6228 leads a mail train past the old tower for "Tower Tuesday", a tower that had a long time ago simply become "CP 141". Already severely downgraded in the PC era, Bellefontaine at one time hosted six different NYC lines heading out of town as well as a good size yard. The tower was the only remaining structure at the time of the photo, and actually somehow remains such today even under CSX, but it is surrounded by tree's these days. Even though Conrail was almost history at the time of the photo, good old #MAIL-44 was still running right on schedule. Actually even about 30 minutes early for it's scheduled 11 AM passing of CP 141.
