I’m captivated by the Japanese concept of Wabi-sabi, which harmonizes wabi, meaning “subdued, austere beauty,” with sabi, signifying “rustic patina.”

Wabi-sabi aesthetics and principles encompass asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and the appreciation of natural objects and the forces of nature.

The Starlight Bridge (Anh Sao Bridge) is located in the heart of the international commercial and financial district of Phu My Hung. This first modern pedestrian bridge of Vietnam was officially inaugurated in April 2010. Nuzzled along a beautiful river promenade with a fresh cool breeze flowing all the time, Starlight Bridge is an architectural symphony which perfectly harmonizes with the natural setting to create an ideal destination for for residents, customers, guests and visitors to enjoy a brand new lifestyle.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

The Rainbow Bridge (レインボーブリッジ ) is a suspension bridge crossing northern Tokyo Bay between Shibaura Pier and the Odaiba waterfront development in Minato, Tokyo, Japan.

Construction started in 1987 and was completed in 1993. The bridge is 798 metres (2,618 ft) long with a main span of 580 metres (1,903 ft). Officially called the "Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Route - Port of Tokyo Connector Bridge," the name "'Rainbow Bridge" was decided by the public.

The towers supporting the bridge are white in color, designed to harmonize with the skyline of central Tokyo seen from Odaiba. There are lamps placed on the wires supporting the bridge, which are illuminated into three different colors, red, white and green every night using solar energy obtained during the day.

The bridge can be accessed by foot from Tamachi Station (JR East) or Shibaura-futō Station (Yurikamome) on the mainland side.

The beginning of the 1930’s marks the democratization of aerodynamics in the car lines. Each manufacturer tries to harmonize its range with more contemporary offerings, including Peugeot with its 301 Profilée version. The model we present is in an advanced state of preservation, but is very healthy. Its paint is not the original one, and shows an old quality restoration. The interior is complete, but the upholstery is in a rather used state. From a mechanical point of view, a restoration will be necessary, but the package seems to be in good condition. Here is the opportunity to acquire one of the rare survivors of the 301 Profilée versions!

Summer home for local financier and philanthropist Morton Plant . The mansion was built at the turn of the 20th century. It has panoramic views of Fishers Island and Long Island Sound and was designed by Plant’s wife Nellie, who had studied architecture at the Sorbonne in Paris, and was implemented by English architect Robert W. Gibson. The exterior was done almost entirely in the Tudor style, using granite quarried from the grounds in order to harmonize with the estate’s natural surroundings. The interior was a melange of several different styles, including Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance, Classical, and even Flemish. Materials used for the interior ranged from rich woods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, to imported stone and metals such as onyx, marble, sandstone, bronze, and iron. A two-story marble fireplace was the focal point of the house. In the 1960's, the estate was turned over to the University of Connecticut for use as a branch campus. The Avery Point campus was established on the property in 1967.

Woodland is my most challenging subject. Finding the order in the chaos of Appalachian forests is not easy, but making the order into a compelling composition is even harder. I scouted this area several months ago, but winter was not a good time for this location. Spring transformed the forest floor into a bright green carpet of ferns. These ancient plants with their symmetrical shapes created an enchanting pattern that instantly caught my attention. I slowly walked around the area looking for the composition that will create a sense of depth and harmonize all the elements of the forest. After a few minutes, I found a beautiful tree for the foreground and composed this scene.

A reaction to academic art of the 19th century was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants, but also in curved lines. Architects tried to harmonize with the natural environment.[3]

Art Nouveau is considered a "total" art style, embracing architecture, graphic art, interior design, and most of the decorative arts, as well as the fine arts. According to the philosophy of the style, art should be a way of life. For many well-off Europeans, it was possible to live in an art nouveau-inspired house with art nouveau furniture, silverware, fabrics, ceramics including tableware, jewellery, cigarette cases, etc. Artists desired to combine the fine arts and applied arts, even for utilitarian objects.

The Japonisme that was popular in Europe during the 1880s and 1890s was particularly influential on many artists with its organic forms and references to the natural world.

Green will take over given enough time. Let’s acknowledge this and build in consequence.

According to neurologist Lauren Riters of the University of Wisconsin, starlings have among the longest and most complex songs of any birds in North America. They continually incorporate new sounds into their vocal arrangements, often mimicking frogs, goats, cats and even other birds. The result is an admixture: warbles, creaks, squeaks, whistles, throaty chirrups, twitters and raspy trills.

While singing, the starling syrinx vibrates in two separate parts, which allow one bird to sing harmonizing duets with itself. "Starlings sing because it makes them feel good," Riters explains.

"Most other birds only sing in spring, but starlings sing all year."

Laos has remained virtually unchanged for half a century. Rich in history and culture, Laos and its peoples, more than 47 ethnic groups, harmonize life to ancient rhythms and traditions that evoke timeless Asia. The vast majority of Lao people live in Laos is approximately 4 million. Laos is generally very rural areas, and Many Lao people support by agriculture, with rice being the most important crop. Women hold dual responsibility for farm at home. In rice farming women in Laos have a substantial role. Traditionally, men plough, make bunds and prepare seedbeds, and women do more than half of the transplanting of rice, weeding, harvesting, threshing and post-harvest operations. Aside from this enumerated work, a gender division of labour exists in Laos which assigns women the major responsibility for childcare and housework. As household size averages seven people these tasks require numerous hours of work each day in addition to women's work outside their home. Such hard life for elderly women where life expectancy is 59 years est. 2008. Although the trappings of the modern world are becoming increasingly visible, Laos remains the least developed country in Southeast Asia. Laos has enjoyed high economic growth, despite poor national infrastructure and a dominant, inefficient agriculture sector. It is also heavily reliant on international assistance programs. In 1998, Laos began formal negotiations with the World Trade Organization. In 2008 a 5.60 US$/day per capita.

Along the way to Wat Luang temple in Pakse we met this old woman. She was sitting in front of her house busy with household duties. Lao women have played a central role in the national country's and household economies over the past two decades. Women's participation exceeds men's in the economically active population. Due to dual responsibility for farm and household they are usually overburdened with work. At home some of these duties include water collection, which may take two to three hours a day; husking rice for family consumption, which may require two hours of work; milling rice; and caring for the sick and the elderly. Girls assist their mothers with these chores and they are often made responsible for care of younger kids. In spite of their major economic contribution, women are generally not considered as workers. However, women, particularly older ones, do control household budgets and share in financial decision making. However, for some intangible reason, the Lao people are still wonderfully friendly, hospitable and passionate. They do not have much, but show it off with pride and wear warming smiles.

De gemiddelde verdienste per dag is 5,60 US$ per hoofd.

The basilica was equipped with a first organ in 1640, made by organbuilder Claude Guillemain, who also officiated in Villefranche de Rouergue, Rodez and Loc-Dieu. But in the absence of documentation, we do not know what happened to this instrument, knowing that the sanctuary was abandoned during the revolution and was in a state of near ruin when an architect priest, a pupil of Viollet-Le-Duc, undertook its restoration between 1858 and 1872.

In 1928, a new organ was ordered from the Toulouse manufacturer Théodore Puget and the instrument equipped with an electric blower and a pneumatic transmission functioned until 1970 when it was dismantled and moved on the occasion of the restoration of the basilica by the Historic Monuments. It was for this organ that Francis Poulenc composed his Litanies à la Vierge noire. The original case that disappeared was replaced by a modern case, while the organ reassembled in the choir produced a metallic sound and did not hold tune. A re-harmonization decided in 1979 did little to improve things and the old Puget, out of breath, was dismantled in 2007. The basilica, considered the second place of pilgrimage in France, was devoid of an organ, although it was in fact deprived of it for thirty years.

In order to restore all its brilliance to the pilgrimage and to support a festival of sacred music, a commission appointed by the bishop of Cahors commissioned organbuilder Jean Daldosso to make a new instrument, while the monitoring of the project was entrusted to the association Cantica Sacra.

On the eve of the millennium jubilee of the pilgrimage, the challenge was to design a new instrument in a place so steeped in history and to integrate it into an architecture without altering its balance. This is how the audacious position suspended between the second pillar and the tribune was found. The shape of a ship's prow imposed itself for both practical and aesthetic reasons, also evoking the maritime spirit of the Rocamadour pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. The wooden shell contains the wind tunnel, while from certain angles, the lines of the one hundred and fifty pipes on the façade represent the sails and the interlacing decorations of the organcase are reminiscent of seaweed.

The composition is inspired by the organs of northern Europe with a sound of baroque aesthetics, but the instrument, equipped with twenty-five stops, remains open to the contemporary repertoire. It has the technique of walkman games, which can be called up indifferently on either of the two keyboards. Games not used on one keyboard are thus available on the other. By playing on many combinations of registrations, this modestly sized instrument allows you to play a wide variety of repertoires.

It should be noted that this organ, the total cost of which amounts to 380,000 euros, was entirely financed by private donations.

Located in a serene Amsterdam park, the "Bolbewoners" sculpture captures the essence of human connection through its elegant figures. Set upon a circular base, this artwork harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding greenery, inviting viewers to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature. Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love — that makes life and nature harmonize. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a pefect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot, letter to Miss Lewis, 1st October 1841

The Austrian Parliament Building (German: Parlamentsgebäude, colloquially das Parlament) in Vienna is where the two houses of the Austrian Parliament conduct their sessions. The building is located on the Ringstraße boulevard in the first district Innere Stadt, near Hofburg Palace and the Palace of Justice. It was built to house the two chambers of the Imperial Council (Reichsrat), the bicameral legislature of the Cisleithanian (Austrian) part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Since its construction, the Parliament Building has been the seat of these two houses, and their successors—the National Council (Nationalrat) and the Federal Council (Bundesrat)—of the Austrian legislature.

The foundation stone was laid in 1874; the building was completed in 1883. The architect responsible for its Greek Revival style was Theophil Hansen. He designed the building holistically, aiming to have each element harmonizing with all the others. He was therefore also responsible for the interior decoration, such as statues, paintings, furniture, chandeliers, and numerous other elements. Hansen was honored by Emperor Franz Joseph with the title of Freiherr (Baron) after its completion. Following heavy damage and destruction in World War II, most of the interior has been restored to its original splendour. (Wikipedia)

Museum of Ethnography Budapest Hungary

Architects: NAPUR Architect

Area : 34000 m²

The new building of the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest City Park (Városliget) was opened 2022. The award-winning new museum building – which is part of Europe’s largest urban-cultural development called Liget Budapest Project has dynamic yet simple lines simultaneously harmonized with the park environment and communicating with the surrounding urban area.

The collection, which comprises 250.000 items from the Carpathian Basin and from every corner of the world, has been hosted by various facilities since its establishment in 1872, but never in its history did it operate in a building designed specifically to cater to its needs. The project was one of over 1700 entries from 115 countries. According to the decision of an international jury, the competition was won by the Hungarian architectural studio, Napur Architect (beating leading world-class architect studios such as Zaha Hadid, BIG), whose building is distinguished by a dynamic yet simple design harmonized with the natural environment of the park while communicating with the urban texture of its surroundings. The gently curving lines enable the building to function as a gateway and a passage linking the city and the park. Sixty percent of the structure is under ground level, and thanks to the landscaped roof and the transparency of the sections over the ground, the new museum is adapted to its environment in its scale too. The grass-covered roof area will be a pleasant community space awaiting visitors to Városliget.

The spectacular trademark of the building is the glass curtain wall surrounding the landscaped roof garden, reminiscent of two intertwined hillsides, with a unique characteristic, consisting of nearly half a million pixels, a raster made by metal grid based on ethnographic motifs selected from the museum's Hungarian and international collections.

The new functions and flexible spaces of the modern and state-of-the-art museum building will facilitate the understanding of the historical heritage embodied by the collection as well as the various aspects of contemporary society. Besides passing down this historical heritage, the realization of more recent professional and research themes and perspectives continues to be among the priority objectives of the museum, as confirmed by its mission. The creatively built spaces will open up new opportunities to communicate with visitors, enabling the presentation of the everyday objects, phenomena, and ideas of the past and the present side by side.

A meandering river winds through the desert, with the majestic High Atlas Mountains as a breathtaking backdrop. This extraordinary scene showcases the contrasting elements of nature, where the serenity of the river's gentle curves harmonizes with the rugged beauty of the mountain range.

Evening harmonizes all today,

Looking back.

Nestled along a quiet street in Kanazawa, this elegant ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) is a stunning blend of heritage architecture and refined hospitality. The warm glow of shoji-screened windows contrasts with the modern high-rises in the background, showcasing how Japan harmonizes its past and present.

The building’s yellow-ochre plaster walls and dark wooden accents reflect a style that dates back to the Edo period, designed for both aesthetics and durability. The wide, overhanging eaves with kawara (ceramic roof tiles) help protect the structure from the region’s heavy snowfall, a feature commonly seen in Kanazawa’s historic buildings.

The large pine tree near the entrance adds a sense of serenity, embodying the Japanese philosophy of integrating nature into architecture. Beneath it, a softly illuminated wooden sign welcomes guests, setting the tone for the inn’s peaceful ambiance. The stone pathway and carefully placed garden elements reinforce the ryokan’s commitment to traditional design principles.

Ryokan like this have long been havens of hospitality, offering guests a kaiseki dining experience, tatami-matted rooms, and onsen (hot spring) baths. Walking past this illuminated retreat at night, one can’t help but feel drawn to its quiet elegance—a stark yet harmonious contrast to the bustling modern city just a few steps away.

In their quiet way...

Eukalyptus is a particularly dear koala bear.

He's only recently with us and has taken our hearts by storm.

His relaxed, modest and gentle manner harmonizes beautifully with his benevolent humor.

He was found together with Luchsi DeLuxe in a remote animal rescue camp,

where the two have made a close friendship.

Here with us Eucalyptus met Prof. Rauz,

who took him under his wing immediately,

and with whom he talks for hours on all sorts of topics -

often throughout the night ...

For modesty he only wanted to show his silhouette

for this first photo;

So we can look forward to a real portrait that will surely follow soon.

Opening in March, 1915, the Santa Fe Depot was built by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to replace the smaller, ornate, wooden D Street station built in 1887. A larger station was needed for expected visitors to the Panama-California Expositon 1915-1917. The architecture, designed by Bakewell & Brown, is Mission Revival style and was intended to harmonize with the buildings of the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park. The interior has redwood ceiling beams and colorful tile wainscoting embellished with the Santa Fe blue cross emblem. Originally there was a Fred Harvey lunch counter, but it's no longer there. After the opening there were 3 daily trains between San Diego and Los Angeles. Today the station is the 3rd busiest in California, serving Amtrak, the San Diego Coaster, the San Diego Trolley and the San Diego Metro Transit System. It is on the National Register of Historic Places #72000248.

044/365 - Day 44 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Today I could only spend minimal time for my Photo Challenge due to professional requirements. Therefore my dwarf-scented lilac had to be the motif today. Fortunately, we had great weather, and the sun shone with very soft light.

I concentrated on the flowers directly, which I separated from the background with a large aperture.

The soft green in the background and the pink flowers harmonize perfectly.

Also this time I refrained from using a tripod to find the best shooting angle.

Hope you like the image!

this build is literally just a test to find out if sand red and dark orange harmonize (generally a lot of color tests for my cyberpunk build lately), so don't judge it too harsh;)

I've been to Italy so I might upload a few pictures of that if you want... now I'll have a professional internship in a luxury restaurant so I won't have a lot of time to build but maybe later:)

Wood Thrush singing - New Jersey

There are many songs of the woodland songbirds that I love to hear each Spring but most likely the song of the Wood Thrush is the one that always brings me joy and peace while wandering around the forests of the Northern New Jersey.

Here is an interesting fact about these birds:

“During his three-part song, a male actually sings pairs of notes simultaneously, which harmonize and blend to produce ringing, ethereal tones.

The Wood Thrush's complex song begins with several low, almost inaudible notes, followed by the rising, flute-like ee-oh-lay, finishing with a complex trill. Each bird can sing unique versions of each song part, and one male can easily sing over 50 distinct songs!” - source: American Bird Conservancy
