when i first saw the tin cover to the new castle arts Harmonious pencils i just loved it. castle arts provides a download for the cover drawing.
unfortunately i didn't do a very good job. i had such a terrible time. i erased too much, layered too much, tried too many different kinds of pencils. up close
the colors look splotchy, blotchy and "meh". the paper was weird maybe.
my goal was to only use the Harmonious pencils, but i found without a yellow i was lost!
so i wasn't sure i should share it. when i made a mistake i kept trying to fix things. only part which looks pretty good is the upper quarter.
i think i should have started over when i saw how weird the birds looked. i was trying to match the example which came in the little brochure included with the pencils.
BUT the actual colors of the pencils did not match the example. and the style needed to match the published version, well, that was bloody impossible!
this took a wee bit more than a month!
Amy came walking towards me in Handen today. Wearing a red dress and matching headwrap she was a pleasure for the eyes. She was late for her bus but was nice enough to pose for a few portraits.
Sad to hear that Paris was attacked by terrorists. Let us pray for the city and people who injured or died in the incident...

One of three large wall murals taken in Brighton, UK recently. Best seen large by clicking on the photo.
"A mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent surface. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture." -Wikipedia
"Graffiti (plural of graffito: "a graffito", but "these graffiti") are writing or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched, or painted illicitly on a wall or other surface, often within public view.[1] Graffiti range from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings, and they have existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire." - Wikipedia

On Harbor Bridge in Sydney Australia, people climb the steel structure. To do this, they pay the high price. Their reward is probably the splendid view they have from this point of view on Sydney Harbor. From a distance, the harmonious lines of the Harbor Bridge satisfy me amply.
This plant is growing in a rural auto wreckers yard. It's colour is harmonious with the faded paint of a nearby automobile. Taken near Guelph, Ontario.
"Yucca Blossom Center" by Patti Deters. This captivating bloom belongs to the yucca plant, part of the Asparagaceae family, known for its striking flowers and resilience in arid environments. The close focus on the flower's detailed center makes it easy to appreciate the beauty of this desert wildflower. Also known as dagger plant or Spanish bayonet, the yucca flower has long held significance in folklore, symbolizing purity, protection, and even spiritual guidance. In deserts where the yucca thrives, its blooms appear as pristine beacons of life, offering nectar to moths, their sole pollinators. One can imagine a quiet desert evening, where a yucca moth flutters delicately under the moonlit sky, drawn to this radiant bloom - together sharing a unique and harmonious relationship that highlights the wonders of natural interdependence. Childhood is a song with harmony of joy and ecstasy
A phase full of magic and glee
And a symphony with harmonious melody.
Tune in to find my peace and solitude
These empty rooms spin, and I embrace the flaws of being human
The black and white... and sometimes the greys that stay for days
The in between times
The meantimes that make this song of life sing
Play, rest, repeat, read exactly what is written on the sheet
"Don't deviate," they say
But I will play what's best for me
I'll press the keys and pull the strings
Create a symphony that's mine
And I'll spend my life penning my song, my song
And the verses I write will speak for me
Good girls don't make history
So I may never be what you assume
Don't want your hooks or auto-tune
If I'm off-key then that's alright with me
Oh and maybe you will learn this when I'm gone
My song will carry on
Let go
I let my voice be heard, then listen for the echo
My own reverb is playing
Cause I'm a movement
There's dissonance, sometimes I make mistakes
Oh I'm human after all, I'm not your expectations
But play, rest, repeat, that's what they ask of me
Just stick to this melody and stay between the lines
But I'll play what's best for me
I'll ring the bells and crash the symbols
My harmonious design
And I'll spend my life penning my song, my song
And the verse I write will speak for me
Good girls don't make history
So I may never be what you assume
Don't want your hooks or auto-tune
If I'm off-key then that's alright with me
Oh and maybe you will learn this when I'm gone
My song will carry on
In my time here, I wanna be revered and remembered
Oh let them say I came, I conquered
So I won't fear and I can't blend in
You can't replace me and you cannot erase me
Cause my song will live on beyond time
And I'll spend my life penning my song, my song
And the verses I write will speak for me
Good girls don't make history
So I may never be what you assume
Don't want your hooks or auto-tune
If I'm off-key then that's alright with me

Chianti is a red Italian wine produced in Tuscany. The first definition of a wine-area called Chianti was made in 1716. The earliest documentation of a Chianti wine dates back to the thirteenth century when viticulture was known to flourish in the Chianti Mountains around Florence. Discover the most celebrated region of Tuscany. The vineyards of this area produce one of the best wines in the world: Chianti Classico. This Wine represents a major source of wealth for the Chianti area, no wonder then that this product has been particularly looked after and protected, in order to distinguish its quality from other wine productions. This is why a rigid legislation has been introduced to regulate the production of Classic Chianti. The first limit obviously regards the geographical area where the grape must grow. But not only the vineyards must be cultivated in the prescribed area: the whole process of wine-making, storage and bottling must take place inside the protected zone. The grape variety from which Chianti is produced is Sangiovese. The alcoholic strength must not exceed 12 %. In addition to this, there are other requirements that must be followed, regarding the average amount of dry product (24 g/l); the acidity rate (4,5 g/l), the colour (intense ruby red), the smell (fruity, with nuances of wildflowers, berries, cherries or plums) and taste (harmonious, dry, strong and with respectable tannin).
We drive on the glorious wine roads of Tuscany. Grapes and olives require similar climatic and soil conditions and share coinciding harvest times, making them a natural pair in the fields.
Long-term agricultural biodiversity appeals to vineyard owners, who realize that economic and seasonal variables, as well as consumer taste, make production of more than one quality product a proactive approach. Additionally, olive groves protect vineyards against strong winds, acting as windbreaks. We visit the farms and cellars and ofcourse taste the great Chianti wine.
Seen from above, this natural hot spring blends harmoniously into the rugged Icelandic coastline. Set among boulders and black pebbles, the thermal pool invites visitors to soak while enjoying the contrast between warm waters and the cold ocean nearby. The soft hues of geothermal blue against volcanic grey create a soothing, minimalistic composition.
[ENG] Santa María de Naranco is one of the most enigmatic and harmonious monuments of Western architecture. It is an old palace that was the Aula Regia of the palace complex that King Ramiro I (842-850) ordered to be built on the outskirts of the capital of the kingdom of Asturias. It was completed in the year 842. Its artistic style is the so-called Asturian or "ramirense" art, within the pre-Romanesque period. It functioned as a temple from the collapse of the chevet and part of the naves of San Miguel de Lillo (12th century) until its restoration in the years 1929-1934. It is located on the southern slope of Mount Naranco, about 4 km from Oviedo (Asturias, Spain). It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
The Hermitage of Our Lady of Muskilda, is located near the town of Ochagavía, on the summit of Mount Muskilda at just over 1000 meters high and nestled in the Salazar valley of the Foral de Navarra community.
The Romanesque construction dates from the 12th century, and is attributed to have been made during the mandate of King Sancho el Fuerte (1194-1234). The complex is composed in addition to the hermitage, a house for the hermit and another for the chaplain, all this enclosure is surrounded by a small stone wall.
The temple is made up of a rectangular floor plan with three naves, the central one with a barrel vault and the lateral ones with a quarter vault, supported by six thick cylindrical columns in the lower part with decoration of bezings (half balls), these columns form the arches of separation between the ships. In the part of the head there is an altarpiece with an inscription of its realization in the year 1642, in its central niche is the image of the Virgin of Muskilda, patron saint of the valley, late Romanesque or early Gothic style and on it a representation of the Assumption and a Crucified.
The presbytery is separated from the central nave by a 15th century wrought iron fence. It has a sacristy attached to the back of the chevet behind the altarpiece, probably from later reforms, the main of which were carried out during the seventeenth century. The first section of the central nave, after the presbytery, has some wall paintings covering its entire vault.
On the outside you can see some thick buttresses on its side walls that mark the four bodies into which the interior naves are divided. The building has two entrance doors, one to the west, from 1671 and the other to the south, the main one, in a Romanesque style with four archivolts supported by smooth pilasters. A characteristic feature is the tower with a quadrangular plan with a harmonious conical roof made of wooden slats - which are called "oholak" - typical of the traditional constructions of the area. There is an old traditional path from the church of San Juan de Ochagavía along which you will find the Stations of the Cross.
Shortly before arriving at the hermitage there is a stone pillar four meters high, in front of which there is a lattice hole and inside a small image of the Virgin with an inscription engraved in the stone that says: «The town of Otxagabia had this Pilar made, in 1654. Jesús María ». This pillar according to Barber Arregui: «The tradition maintains that inside is the oak on which the Virgin appeared to the shepherd of the Asa house» ".
with horse - A jumper harmonious, well seated and relaxed, is forgotten, it is the director of his horse.
a harmonious new day,
listen:
In my secret life
I saw you this morning
You were moving so fast
Can't seem to loosen my grip
On the past
And I miss you so much
There's no one in sight
And we're still making love
In my secret life
I smile when I'm angry
I cheat and I lie
I do what I have to do
To get by
But I know what is wrong
And I know what is right
And I'd die for the truth
In my secret life ............

Going Abstract 2016 - Week 4 - Resonance
The flowing and harmonious lines lead me forward to my destination as a river flows towards the sea.
I can look at this harmony of colours for a very long time. They resonate with me on an emotional level creating inner energy.
The lines and shapes, both rounded and straight show me purpose of movement.
The message I get from this abstract is that nothing ever stands still, it is always moving forward carrying me where I need to go.
Abstracts tell me stories where I never dreamt I'd go! It's an awakening of all my senses. They make me feel more alive, more vibrant.
Here is the album for "My Favourite Abstracts":
The interior is a harmonious composition in Perpendicular Gothic. Although the building is small, it is given a sense of grandeur by the proportions of the arcade and clerestory, the richness of the moldings, the loftiness of the hammerbeam roof with its blue and vermillion decoration, and the decorative details, which include carved stone ribbons around the nave piers, bearing the names of notables in the early Sydney church. The stone used throughout is Sydney sandstone. The chancel has a newly-restored floor in ornate pattern set with marble and intaglio tiles in the Cosmati style by Fields of London, created under the direction of Gilbert Scott. The rest of the building is paved with encaustic tiles of red and black with small intaglio designs by Mintons of Stoke-on-Trent. (Wikipedia)

This imposing monolith rises like a fortress above the southern plains of Iceland, sculpted by centuries of erosion and volcanic history. Shot from a low angle near the water's edge, the reflection of Lómagnúpur in the shallow pool doubles the grandeur of its silhouette and emphasizes the sharp verticality of the landscape. The spring grass pushing through the water brings a touch of life to an otherwise raw, primordial scene.
On a clear day like this, the warm hues of the volcanic slopes blend harmoniously with the vibrant blue of the sky and the reflective surface, offering a moment of stillness in a land defined by movement—wind, water, and time itself.
[While I upload older photos from 2020 and before, I am also trying to keep up with some of my more current works by uploading a couple of photographs every day, in the afternoon or evening.]
In September and October 2021, we spent three weeks touring the Italian regions of Abruzzo, Umbria, Marches and Emilia-Romagna, which we hadn’t visited yet.
Personally, I had my sights firmly set on a series of early Romanesque churches of high architectural and artistic interest, so you will see quite a few of those, in spite of the typical Italian administration-related problems I encountered, and which were both stupid and quite unpleasant.
There will also be other sorts of old stones, landscapes, etc., and I hope you will enjoy looking at them and have a good time doing so. If it makes you want to go, do, by all means, Italy is a wonderful country.
Today, we take a look at yet another magnificent Romanesque church, this time in the region of Marches: San Claudio al Chienti, an abbey isolated in the Chienti valley.
The church, which looks enormous with its atypical architecture and massive twin towers, is in fact smaller on the inside than one might expect.
Built entirely in brick, its existence is attested in writing by the late 1000s, and its Byzantine influences make me lean towards a construction period during the first half of the 11th century.
The very harmonious, almost intimate, lower nave, quite devoid of any decoration.
Of rural landscape are there lights and shades,
Of more harmonious dance and play than thine.
How vividly this moment brightens forth,
Between gray parallel and leaden breadths,
Thomas Cambell

The Gate of Harmonious Interest, or Tong Ji Men, was erected in 1981. It was built in China and is modeled after typical gates there. Both the Chinese and non-Chinese communities worked together to have this gate installed over Fisgard Street. Two inscriptions allude to this cooperative effort: "To work together with one heart" and "To help each other achieve harmony."
It is a most interesting structure in terms of Chinese cultural symbolism. It's overall theme is Unity in Duality. This theme is seen in the Gate's treatment of the Golden Dragon, a Yang element, and the Red Phoenix, a Yin element. Red symbolizes joy and festivity while gold symbolizes wealth and prosperity. These colours-together with touches of Qing (a blue-green colour), which is symbolic of growth and peace-represents the harmony of the elements. In particular, the red and gold represent the union of heaven and earth.
There are bells hung from the corner of the gate. When these chime in the wind, Buddhists and Taoists believe they ward off evil spirits. On either side of the gate are two lions, who act as guardians protecting Chinatown. The female lion on the right side and the male on the left again signify the balance of Yin and Yang. It is an impressive opening to the oldest and complete Chinatown in Canada, and second oldest in North America, after San Francisco's chinatown.

The Stephansplatz is a square at the geographical centre of Vienna. It is named after its most prominent building, the Stephansdom, Vienna's cathedral and one of the tallest churches in the world. Before the 20th century, a row of houses separated Stephansplatz from Stock-im-Eisen-Platz, but since their destruction, the name Stephansplatz started to be used for the wider area covering both. To the west and south, respectively, run the exclusive shopping streets Graben (literally "ditch") and Kärntner Straße ("Kärnten" is the German for Carinthia). Opposite the Stephansdom is the Haas-Haus, a piece of striking modern architecture by Hans Hollein. Although public opinion was originally skeptical about the combination of the mediaeval cathedral and the glass and steel building, it is now considered an example of how old and new architecture can mix harmoniously .

Childhood is a song with harmony of joy and ecstasy
A phase full of magic and glee
And a symphony with harmonious melody.
Not exactly a harmonious but a very cheerful combination of different architectural styles and colours.....
Windhoek (my home town) is the capital and largest town in Namibia with about 350 000 inhabitants.
(Namibia itself has a population of 2,2 million)
It was founded in 1840 by Jonker Afrikaaner.
The photo was taken for the Weekly Alphabet group and this week's challenge

It is a labour of love for me to find 'different' lighting and angles to bring out the unique beauty of the Chrysanthemum, the petals so tightly concentrated in the heart and cascading out in full glory.
And then, the smaller variety, in sprays, with curling petals!
A lovely colour combination in this bouquet, the special Chrysanthemum in pink and lime green, the colours picked up by the small Mums and the pink Lysiantus.
Today, the chrysanthemum is a quintessential Japanese flower.
Western-style spray chrysanthemums or yogiku are becoming popular as cut flowers and garden plants in Japan, but respect is still attached to traditional, the big blooms often duo toned, collectively known as kotengiku or antique chrysanthemums.
*Name: comes from the Greek krus anthemonî meaning gold (bronze) flower
*History: The chrysanthemum has been known since before 5000BC in a small yellow form.
*Origin: China and Japan.
*Colours: all colours from white to deep purple, bronze, lime green and brick red
*Family: Relatives include Chamomile, Marguerite.
*Varieties: they come in a range of shapes and sizes, including spiders, spoons, buttons and blooms.
*Trivia and Facts: The Chrysanthemum is depicted on Japan's imperial weapons and flag. Japan also has a national festival devoted to the flower (9 Sept).
*Mythology: Some countries (such as Malta) think it is unlucky to have the flower indoors. It is associated with funerals and All Saints Day.
*Medicinal: Feng Shui adherents believe the chrysanthemum brings laughter and happiness to your home. Teas are made with the leaves to help relieve from flue.

Another aspect of Chrysanthemum, tightly packed, a true Autumn flower, built against rain, wind and cold?
The name "chrysanthemum" is derived from the Greek words chrysos (gold) and anthemon (flower)
Chrysanthemums, sometimes called mums or chrysanths, are flowering plants of the genus Chrysanthemum in the family Asteraceae. They are native to Asia and northeastern Europe. Most species originate from East Asia and the center of diversity is in China. Chrysanthemums were first cultivated in China as a flowering herb as far back as the 15th century BC.
The flower was brought to the Western World in the 17th century.
There are about 40 valid species and countless horticultural varieties and cultivars.
For many years, chrysanthemum signifies praise and admiration. A chrysanthemum is considered as a noble flower of the Chinese noble class.
Wishing you a day full of good light and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)
