The Faith, Trust and Hope workshop.

Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod! One of the very best things about Hillside is that their workshops always bring together some of the coolest people. Getting to see Feist and Harmer together on stage was one of the most surreal, unbelievable, and exciting moments of my entire summer, and maybe even my life. And the fact that I was sitting all of four feet from them for an entire hour was the icing on the cake. It was one of those things you have to really appreciate in the moment, because you know it's not likely to happen again any time soon, and one of those things you know you'll be buzzing about for a long time after. (I definitely wasn't the only one feeling this way. While there were other artists playing on the numerous different stages at the same time as this workshop was going on, it seemed like everyone had made their way over to the Sun Stage to check this workshop out. (At one point, I looked around to realize that the area was so jam packed that people were literally being squeezed into the bushes on the side, and one overzealous fan had even climbed a tree to get a better view.) Amazing!

Sometimes a picture has the power to turn fate around:

In August 2009, I began visiting urban colonies in the city of Bhopal, central India, to document the severe illnesses faced by children as a result of contaminated water. As a consequence to the 1984 tragedy, around 100,000 people are now chronically ill from the effects of the gas leak, while tainted drinking water has affected thousands more.

Toxic waste – buried around the former factory – has penetrated the underground aquifers, harming the health of nearby dwellers. As a grim result, children are increasingly faced by severe disorders. Living with his family in a rundown shack made of bare soil and cow dung, one such victim is Sachin, now 20, and suffering from leg paralysis.

On a fateful day, during one of my regular visits to his home, heavy rain began to fall. His youngest sister, Poonam, then 6, was revelling in the rain to curb the scorching summer heat.

I started taking pictures immediately.

A frame from that propitious moment was later assigned numerous recognitions, including a 5000 USD grant from ‘The Photographers Giving Back Awards’ - in Sweden - to implement a long-term plan for the wellbeing of Poonam, 11 in 2014, and designed to assist her family overcome extreme poverty.

Born ‘unlucky’, with a tiny sixth toe on each foot, her father superstitiously believed she brought misfortune upon their lives.

Today, Poonam dreams of becoming a teacher, like the ones practicing in her small private school, a short walk away from the family’s newly-built home – made of solid bricks. Along with her sister Jyoti, 12, she regularly attends lessons. (Year 5 Elementary in 2014-2015)

I have witnessed the passion that is moving this family along, and how a single possibility for change was able to spark in them such a vibrant enthusiasm for life.

Poonam’s fairytale is far from over: time after time, I intend to witness her blossoming into a teenager, an emancipated woman, and later into a loving wife and mother.

Harm bought me this great old turntable (Pioneer PL-560). After getting a preamp and figuring out how to counter-weight the tonearm properly and jigger the ground wire (whew) it sounds great! Should prove to be a great alternative to the gimme gimme instantness of my mp3s.

Le Hellfest, également appelé Hellfest Summer Open Air, est un festival de musique français spécialisé dans les musiques extrêmes, annuellement organisé au mois de juin à Clisson en Loire-Atlantique. Sa forte fréquentation le fait figurer parmi les plus importants festivals de musique français. Il est aussi l'un des plus grands festivals de metal en Europe et le premier en France.

Il trouve son origine dans un autre festival musical, le Furyfest, qui se tient de 2002 à 2005 dans différents lieux des Pays de la Loire ; le Hellfest en prend la suite en 2006 puis connaît, en quelques années, une hausse continue de sa fréquentation, passant de 22 000 pour la première édition à 152 000 entrées payantes en 2015.

Sa programmation est avant tout centrée sur le hard rock et le metal pour les deux scènes principales, tandis que chacune des quatre autres scènes du festival est dédiée à un style plus particulier comme le black metal, le death metal, le punk hardcore, le doom metal ou le stoner rock, s'assurant ainsi la présence de groupes tels que Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Motörhead et KISS, tout autant que celle de Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse ou Anthrax.

In the early hours of Thursday 19 March 2026 eight warrants were executed simultaneously across Tameside, Oldham and Rochdale to tackle a suspected criminal network involved in the distribution of class A drugs and firearms.

Officers from Tameside Programme Challenger team, the District Intelligence Unit (DIU), and our Tactical Aid Unit (TAU) were deployed to each of the addresses where a total of

11 people aged between 24 and 77 were arrested on suspicion of drug related offences following weeks of intelligence gathering and preparation.

A firearms strike was also carried out at one of the addresses.

Eight men and three women were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs, being part of an organised crime group, possession with intent to supply, money laundering, and possession of an offensive weapon.

During searches of the addresses, class A, B and C drugs including crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and nitrous oxide were seized. Further recoveries of £70,000 in cash, a zombie knife, a BB gun and four vehicles were also made.

Chief Superintendent Shan Nasim, District Commander for Tameside, said: “Today’s operation has been a powerful example of our continued, determined effort to dismantle organised crime in our district and Greater Manchester.

“We have 11 people in custody being questioned by our investigation teams in relation to an organised crime group (OCG) that have been causing widespread harm across our communities.

“Today's action caused significant disruption of an organised crime group (OCG) and has prevented drugs and weapons from reaching the streets, as well as the associated harms that come hand in hand with organised crime.

“Organised criminals exploit vulnerable people and blight our communities; we will take robust action to catch offenders, keep our communities safe, and protect vulnerable people across Greater Manchester.”

Programme Challenger brings agencies across Greater Manchester together to protect vulnerable people, dismantle criminal networks and prevent exploitation in all its forms.

Members of the public are encouraged to share intelligence, which remains vital in disrupting criminal networks. GMP and partner agencies are committed to safeguarding vulnerable people who are victims of crime or at risk of committing offences.
