And no better way one can find, by looking into a Sunflower, for they glow in an abundance of their pure beauty of life and love!

A stroll through Cannon Hill Park on a very warm sunny day, and harmed with my macro 40mm lens. When I spotted these lovely Sunflowers, basking in the shade of the sunlight.

Thanks always for your cool comments and compliments here, my cool flickr friends !!!

I'll boil easier than you

Crush my bones into glue

I'm a go-getter

The system's in red

The room is inbred

I'm a go-getter

Don't hold no harm

Don't hold no harm

My children despise my wonderful lies

I'm a go-getter

I see through your walls

And your space down your halls

I'm a go-getter

Don't hold no harm

Don't hold no harm

The fever I feel, the fake and the real

I'm a go-getter

My world just expands

Things just break in my hands

I'm a go-getter

Don't hold no harm

Don't hold no harm

Don't hold no harm

Don't hold no harm

Harm set, harm get!

The lionfish, a longstanding showstopper in home aquariums, is a flourishing invasive species in U.S. Southeast and Caribbean coastal waters. This invasive species has the potential to harm reef ecosystems because it is a top predator that competes for food and space with overfished native stocks such as snapper and grouper. Scientists fear that lionfish will also kill off helpful species such as algae-eating parrotfish, allowing seaweed to overtake the reefs. In the U.S., the lionfish population is continuing to grow and increase its range. This is largely because lionfish have no known predators and reproduce all year long; a mature female releases roughly two million eggs a year.

The spines of this species deliver a venomous sting that can last for days and cause extreme pain, sweating, respiratory distress, and even paralysis to predators, or in some cases, an unsuspecting human.

"...T-t-terious, infectious and dangerous

Friends and enemies find us contagerious

And they spread into your system like a virus

Yes the trouble is it kind of makes you anxious

I was lookin' back to see if you were lookin back at me

To see me lookin back at you

I was lookin' back to see if you were lookin back at me

To see me lookin back at you

But if you hurt what's mine

I'll sure as hell retaliate

You can free the world, you can free my mind

Just as long as my baby's safe from harm tonight

You can free the world, you can free my mind

Just as long as my baby's safe from harm tonight"

This song was written in 1991, and it sounds so premonitory for this pandemic age, but in fact, the liner notes to the Blue Lines album, it mention the movie Taxi Driver as an influence, and it's clear that the movie was inspiration for this song's lyrics. The movie stars Robert DeNiro as a paranoid Vietnam vet who drives a taxi at night. He becomes obsessed with saving a child prostitute played by Jodie Foster, and ends up killing some people in his efforts. The spooky atmosphere in this song goes with the theme, as do the lines about protecting a child. From www.songfacts.com/facts/massive-attack/safe-from-harm

Happy Monochrome Monday, everyone!

We lay by cool, still waters

And gazed into the sun

And like the moth's great imperfection

Succumbed to her fatal charms

And maybe it's me who dreams of requited love

The victim of fools who stand in line.

Away from harm.

Ranch Owner Clarence Dekens gave my wife and I a tour of his ranch and up close and personal experience seeing the cows and petting them. You had to be careful when they suddenly turned their heads as they could do some serious damage to you with those horns!

He told me that this black heifer currently has the longest horns at 120 inches from tip to tip.But his record of cows is one that had horns 150 inches long!

Am I just a feeling you can't name?

Well, do you see my face at night when all else fades?

Wherever you go, I follow you all the way

I could see we're one but not the same

So, don't just stand there in the dark, cause I haven't left you

I have been there from the start and I won't forget you

The distant stars will show me where you are

And no, we could never be apart

You're safe from harm

Summertime, and the livin' is easy

Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high

Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good-lookin'

So hush, little baby, don't you cry

One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singing

And you'll spread your wings and you'll take to the sky

But till that morning, there ain't nothin' can harm you

With daddy and mammy standin' by

For Macro Mondays theme 'Photographic Equipment'.

Brian is perched on the integral lens hood of my 14mm Samyang lens, staring nervously at the surface of the lens. The lens hood blocks stray light and so prevents glare and lens flare, particularly important for this lens that has a highly curved surface. The lens hood also protects the lens which is very helpful in this case as a filter cannot be used

Free soloing is the most dangerous form of rock climbing where free soloists climb above 'safe' heights where a fall would almost certainly be fatal. They climb without ropes or other protective equipment, using only their special climbing shoes and bag of climbing chalk to help maintain friction of their hands with the rock.

Inspired by watching the sport climbing at the Olympics, Brian attempts his first free solo. This image shows him successfully negotiating the serious crux pitch, his climbing partner looking on anxiously. Of course, snails have no need of chalk, making use of their natural sticky slime to keep them as safe as possible.

Winter is for resting and recuperating. It's for planning and dreaming, for remembering. It's for missing summer places and the reassurance that we'll see them again.

Well, it's back to school...well, back to work for me but working IN a school is like going back to school. I had a great day back, it felt nice to be back in a supportive work environment and see everyone. This year is looking like an interesting, challenging yet exciting year to come!

With deep respect for the Veterans who have stood between us and a deep abyss.

Currently 100% of our forces are volunteers. They are paid peanuts and their families struggle to make ends meet.

I was surprised to hear on the History Channel this morning that only 20% of the Viet Nam Vets were draftees. I would have thought the inverse from popular lore.

Above are photos of my dad, my two brothers and me. I am the cute baby on the bottom left. My dad with the Lyndon Johnson big ear is on the top left. My older brother is on the top right and I'm pretty sure he is gay - if he is not gay he is missing a good chance. (Just look at the necklace he is wearing.) My younger brother is giving the finger to the world on the bottom right - a trait that he continues to this day.

I thought about the significance of this day when I saw a goofy wall hanging my mom put together many years ago and gave me showing these 4 photos. My Mom and Dad are long gone, but I thought of my Mom carefully cutting photos into circles to place in the frame as a special gift for me. – I removed them to scan for this.

So, my thought is that all of the Vets were once babes in their mom’s arms. They are not statistics to be used by politicians of any stripe. Both sides suck in my opinion.

My dad and both of his brothers served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific. One of his brothers died in service. My mother’s only brother served in the Navy in WWII in the Atlantic. My brothers and I also served in the Navy.

My Father-in-Law served in North Africa and Italy.

Two of my wife’s 3 brothers served in the Air Force.

My older brother’s son served in the Army in Iraq during the first (1991?) conflict in a WMD unit.

My younger brother’s son is currently serving in Iraq in the Army as an interpreter. (Prayers for his safety are welcome and requested).

All of us volunteered.

I did diddlysquat in terms of personal sacrifice during my time in service.

Today thousands serve in harms way and deserve our prayers or good wishes.

I salute the brave men and women who serve and have served to keep us free.

I came across this little smoke shop while passing through Jefferson, Oregon.

Halt! No harm is to come to this Golem; they are peaceful.

All of the eagles held by the zoos I serve have been injured in the wild and are incapable of surviving on their own. At the zoo, they live with great support from human caregivers.
