This Mountain Hare displays it's survival instincts by selecting a sheltered spot to keep out the wind.
Came belting across the field towards us and then turned at speed and for once I was able to follow it with the camera. Not easy to get a good shot through the heat-haze but certainly a great encounter! Also saw other hares boxing but sadly too far away for photography.
Many thanks to all who comment, fave or just enjoy looking, it really is very much appreciated!

It looks like it's had it for a while, and so we're hoping and praying it's only minor. Not sure if the scar is from a run-in with one of the local predators, or a fence...
A couple of 'hare running towards head on' shots. Both taken on the same morning. The hares use this track regularly so it's just a case of lying in wait...
We went looking for Mountain Hares as i prepare now for the winter season of following a few of these.
Continuing on with the Hares - I can't get enough of them!
Here's a couple from yesterday morning...
Looking like it is in the studio, and posing perfectly before heading out to where things are hopping.
A different light and mood, one from a couple of days ago. This is from early in my shoot, before sunrise, in subdued light.
These hares, along with the Snowy Owls, were bright spots for me in Manitoba's unusually harsh and snowbound winter of 2021/22.
