Revisited version of the hardware store. This building is also my sigfig's home

Eymer & Duchane Ace Hardware (right) has been in business since the 1930s. The building to the left is a converted Standard Station which now houses Ace's rental center and storage. Part of it used to be a guitar teacher's shop.

Since this picture was taken, the place has been renamed Paddletown Hardware.

Ghost sign on the side of a building in downtown Newton, IL.

At the end of September 2012 Eric Owen hardware shop is to cease trading.

Mr Owen set up his business, with his sister Elsie, in 1923.

Seven years later he erected a warehouse and office in Tremadog, employing two men, a warehouseman and a lorry driver.

He hired a room in the town hall for market day in Porthmadog and eventually bought 105 High Street as an office.

After the Second World War the shop at 105 High Street was increasing its potential for selling hardware, small agricultural tools and other items and in 1961 he moved his company to 117 High Street.

I will miss this shop as they have any knick knack possible there.I am going to miss buying special screws and having them put in a brown paper bag each priced individually.

Eric Owen has been trading for a long time, they even had an animal feeding store in Tremadog, they also had a shed to store agricultural machinery ready to be sold in Tremadog.

The extraneous gold hardware (Guitar Fetish gold connector cables, gold straplocks, gold case latches/hinges) matches the gold hardware on my Gibson Goldtone amplifier. I even prefer Herco Gold nylon picks (although the heavier Herco Silvers are nice for hard picking styles).

The case even has gold (yellow) stitching around the sides of the lid. It's a really nice yet inexpensive Guardian brand. I just kind of feel better in public or at a club with a case that doesn't advertise "Gibson" with a big shiny embossed logo on the side. And the black fur is sexier anyway.

The most popular electric strings have nickel-plated steel wrapping the wound strings. But earlier strings were mostly wound with solid nickel and had a slightly mellower tone. Purely nickel-wound sets like Gibson Les Paul Signature, Rotosound Pure Nickel, or GHS Nickel Rockers still offer vintage tone. (Stainless steel strings have a brighter tone with more bite, but will also take a bite out of your frets more quickly than other strings).

This guitar is outfitted with Hybrid Slinkys. They're custom lights, an industry term for 9's with a 42 top, and a good size for a typical Les Paul. These Ernie Ball hex-core nickel-plated strings are Jimmy Page's choice; why not yours? Hybrid Slinky (9-11-16-26-36-46) are an ideal blend of Super Slinky (9-11-16-24-32-42) and Regular Slinky (10-13-17-26-36-46). Other good sets in the same widths are the round-core nickel plated Dean Markley 1978 Custom Lites, and GHS Boomers Custom Lights.

Some players believe heavier 10s and 11s produce better sound, but there's not necessarily much truth in that. Billy Gibbons, for example, plays 7s. Dunlop sells his 'signature' brand of Rev. Willy's strings, which, besides Extra Light (7-38) also come in Light (8-40) and Medium Light (9-42). I'm still waiting to try a set of those, and a set of nickel-wound 11s, for a heavy blues shootout.

About 2 weeks after she broke her wrist, they took the soft cast off and sent her home with this hardware! Can you imagine trying to get dressed in the morning?!!

Lots of cool machinery in the museum, great photo opps too. Except it's dark, and there are other people around.

I was going to use the flash, having one of the kids hold it for me, but I just wasn't in the mood.

Can you imagine working with something like this every day? I don't see any finger safety guards on there!

Just a bunch of hardware.

Size comparison. This CPU cooler is huge.

CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer I30 CPU Cooler: $34.98 from SuperBiiz.com ... After having to upgrade CPU coolers TWICE IN A MONTH with my old computer Hades, due to cat hairs, I knew not to bother skimping out this time. I want straight for the more expensive, more large, $40 aftermarket cooler. Unfortunately, it was so large it blocked a RAM slot, and due to the way RAM works in this motherboard, that means not being able to use 2 RAM slots. But my motherboard has 8 RAM slots. I just wish I hadn't bought 4G SIMMS, because 6 * 4G = 24G, and being maxed out at 24G RAM kinda sucks when I regularly break 30G of actual-memory-used. If I could have used those 2 extra slots, I'd be up to 32G of RAM. If I had bought 8G SIMMS, I could have gotten 24G of RAM, and then upgraded up to 48G. But I'm stuck with 24G, and not wanting to spend $300 just to get to 32G (by virtue of having to re-buy all-8G SIMMS). ANYWAY, this cooler has other features/specs: Mfr Part Number: FREEZER I30 / 4 Mounting Directions / Application: Intel / Material: Aluminum finsx48, thickness 0.5mm / Heatpipe: Direct-Touch 8mmx4 (double-sided) / Fan Speed: ARCTIC F12 PWM; 120 mm, 400 - 1,350 RPM (PWM controlled) / Air Flow: 74 CFM / 125.7 m3/h / Bearings: Fluid Dynamic Bearing / Noise Level: 0.3 Sone (@ 1,350 RPM) / Maximum Cooling Capacity: 320 Watts / Current/Voltage: 0.22A / 3.5 - 12V / Dimensions: 139x100x161mm / Weight: 0.9kg / Compatibility List: LGA 2011: i7 Extreme=i7-3980X,i7-3960X; i7=i7-3930K,i7-3820; LGA 1155: i7=i7-2700K,i7-2600S,i7-2600K,i7-2600; i5=i5-2500T,i5-2500S,i5-2500K,i5-2500,i5-2405S,i5-2400S,i5-2400,i5-2390T,i5-2320,i5-2310,i5-2300; i3=i3-3240T,i3-3240,i3-3225,i3-3220T,i3-3220,i3-2120,i3-2105,i3-2100T,i3-2100; Pentium=G860,G850,G840; LGA 1156: i7=i7-880,i7-875K,i7-870S,i7-870,i7-860S,i7-860,i5=i5-760,i5-750S,i5-750,i5-680,i5-670,i5-661,i5-660,i5-655K,i5-650,i5-540,i5-530,i3=i3-560,i3-550,i3-540,i3-530,Pentium=G6960,G6950; LGA 1150 / 6 year warranty

BACKSTORY: Building my new computer! We decided to name it Thailog. Thailog ("Goliath" spelled backwards) is the evil twin of Goliath from the cartoon Gargoyles. Carolyn's computer is named after Goliath, so it just makes sense that Clint's computer is the evil twin of Carolyn's computer. A quick summary of the computer's specs is: Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz with an Arctic Freezer I30 cooler on a ASRock X99 WS EATX motherboard with 24G of Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400mHz RAM, a Radeon R9 270 video card, and a Crucial M500 240GB M.2 SSD...all inside a massive NZXT Phantom 820 case. It was a $1560 build, summarized on my blog at clintjcl.wordpress.com/2015/03/06/journal-hardware-purcha...

An Ikea table with some cable access holes cut in the back. On the left, a power strip and the cable modem; on the right, a Linksys router and an Airport wireless base station. And the associated power cables, network cables, etc. Above the table on the left, a Mac Mini I'm using as a development server. The point I'm most proud of with this setup: there are only two cables leading up into the table, the power cable and the coax for the cable modem. Everything else is self-contained.

We have more hardware than a DIY dad can dream about.
