Happy Thanksgiving

I can honestly say that yesterday was the BEST Thanksgiving I’ve ever had. The day was perfect from start to finish. I felt good. Anna was in a good mood and took a long nap. I cooked… ham with a homemade sweet glaze, mashed potatoes (in the Instant Pot with heavy whipping cream and butter, omg ), peppered gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and rolls. We don’t often have a traditional meal but I felt like doing it this year. Mom carefully curated from her pretty napkins, placemats, candles, and Depression glass to set the most beautiful table ever. Jenny and Wyatt arrived just after 6 pm and we sat to eat. Oh I also made an Amaretto Sour that everyone declared was delicious so I was tipsy by the time the kids arrived. We had pumpkin pie and a lemon Cool Whip pie (graham cracker crust, one container of Cool Whip, and 2 lemon yogurts) for dessert. After Anna went to bed, we played Cards Against Humanity with the new Nasty Bundle that Pam sent Curtis for his birthday. Dominic dominated the game, earning most of the black cards. It was an awesome day.

I’m so grateful that my immediate family is healthy and happy. Honestly, the happiness part is something that doesn’t come easily for any of my three kids so to see them all laughing and enjoying a meal together means the world to me. Jenny and Wyatt got engaged last week so we got to celebrate their love. I’m very grateful for my husband. Curtis is so patient with me, he has taught me how to relax and not sweat the small stuff. He still likes me and I still like him! We have so much fun together and so much to look forward to. Even though mom is recovering slowly from her fall and food poisoning, she is recovering. I’m so grateful to still have her by my side. I’m also thankful that my sisters are in my life again (we’ve been having a lot of fun getting to know each other better) and that my dad has a presence in my life. If you could spare a prayer, Pam’s household has been hit by Covid… she’s the one with CVID so she’s at a much higher risk for complications. Thank you everyone. <3

Day 2 - seems that Bubu is here to stay...

Un update on Bubu: he is male, 3-4 years old, already neutered. His bad temper was attributed to the bad case of flea allergy. The condition has been addressed. My parents are very happy, as he is very gentle, calm but affectionate and follows them everywhere. He also answers questions with little chirpy sounds. Meow!

Today is Panta’s birthday. HAPPY Happy Birthday Panta!

It only seems appropriate to post a picture of a bird today. Panta is constantly on the watch for the most elusive of species and he always comes away with amusing stories of his quests. So, today I post a common cardinal for two reasons. First, because it immediately comes to mind when I think ‘colour’ and anyone who browses Panta's site is sure to be awed by his magnificently coloured models. And secondly, because this particular red scoundrel, as well as his more modestly adorned wife, are the most elusive creatures on the planet! Oh sure, they are constant visitors at my backyard feeder. I watch them day in and day out feasting greedily at the all day buffet. However, when they finish, do they offer a gratuity in the form of a photo op on a pretty branch? Nooooo, they have perfected the art of dine and dash! So, I’m afraid it will continue to be my lifetime quest to capture that prize winning picture of a cardinal. In the meantime, this work-in-process is for you. Thank you for being such an inspiration Panta. Hope you have a splendid Birthday. =^D

This is my father's final resting place, if you care to call it that.

I knew I didn't want to just spread his ashes someplace meaningless, and I knew that at the edge of his property down a long and steep walk waited a stream.

So, we went to that stream.

It was a bit of a hike. The good news is, the path down there is now more literally a road -- not paved, not by any stretch, but a road just the same. The bad news is, it's a throughfare used by the many gas miners that now populate the area (this odd part of Colorado is experiencing the very opposite of a recession thanks to the gas mines). So, big dirty white trucks would occasionally rumble past us on our quest, our pilgrimage, for this stream.

We found a smaller path off the main road and figured, "Well, this must be it." So we wandered that way for maybe a half-hour. The path disappeared pretty fast, and we were in a beautiful meadow with lots of trees and... the stream was still below us by a good ways. Plus, we saw some odd droppings ("scat") scattered (get it, "scattered?") about, and only after I returned did I learn of the mother bear and her cub wandering the area around my father's land. (This is also the property where my father fell asleep on the hammock and woke up about 10 feet away from a mountain lion, who didn't seem to notice him, or care to notice him.) So, it's good news we were not molested by bears or oversized kitties.

So, we turned back around and headed back to the path, and kept wandering. And wandering. It rained a tiny bit. It got sunny. It got windy.

And then we found the bottom, where there was a bridge -- now dusty and worn. So, we scooted off the path once more and went a little ways down the edge of the stream.

That's where the old man's ashes met with the rapids of the rising creek waters (all that snowmelt, dontcha know), and that was that. No real words were said; we did that at the funeral many months ago. Just welcomed him back to his Happy Hunting Ground, and that was that.

(For those who don't know, the Happy Hunting Ground is a real idea among Indians of certain tribes, like the Cherokee. They say you die, your soul gets to go to your Happy Hunting Ground. That's their afterlife. Unless, of course, you were scalped, and my father wasn't scalped by marauding braves, so I guess it's all right.)

I made myself a happy families card game. It is a deck of 8x4 cards showing analogue synths. Now even my girl has fun with these old beasties...

I went out to dinner with some friends and snapped a few pictures. I've known these people since 1978 and Glenn, second from the left, has been putting "devil horns" behind people's heads for photos for the entire 45+ years.

...to all of my Flickr Friends! And a HUGE thank you to Justin and Mollie for helping me with the lights in the dolly room! You two are fantastic! AND thanks so much, Justin, for standing on the scary wobbly tall ladder to do this! I will show more of the lights later, but Justin and Mollie were Angels and helped me do what I could not do on my own! I might move into the dolly room! :D I love you two, and the house is empty without you! xoxoxo

I will get back to my chronological pictures next year! :D

Wishing you all the very happiest and best in 2012! Thank you SO much for your friendship!!! You are all amazing, and I love you!

The colorful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima which comes in February end or early March. Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. The colorful festival bridges the social gap and renew sweet relationships. On this day, people hug and wish each other 'Happy Holi'.
