Students, teachers, school leaders, community partners and neighbours all came out to celebrate the inaugural cohort of Delta School District's Farm Roots Mini School

Students are digging right in to their post-secondary education in sustainable agriculture while still in high school, thanks to a new partnership between Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and the Delta School District.

During the home ec lesson on chickens, I had the girls flap their wings to see how many times they could do that in a minute. They compared that to other birds. (They learned that chickens can fly short distances and relatively low to the ground...but are not like other birds who can fly higher and for longer periods of time.)

They also listened to their heart beat and compared it to a chicken's heart rate. (The chicken's heart rate is faster.)

At home, they could take their temperature and compare it to a chicken's temperature. (The chicken's temperature is higher.)

See the next picture for the eye patch game.
