This is a japa mala consisting of 108 polymer clay beads made to look like jade, set in 12 segments of 9 beads each. The spacer between the sets is a tiny shell. I used three pieces of embroidery thread and tied three knots in between each bead. The beads are approximately 5mm in diameter. The mountain or guru bead is in the shape of a flower. The red bead, yellow bead, and shell above it are just adornments. Another shell, different from the others, is at the base of the mountain bead, again for aesthetic reasons. The gold tassel is made of the same gold embroidery thread, wrapped in a figure eight (infinity pattern) 12 times. I secured the tassel to the mala with the excess string at the end of the last shell. The tassel was then secured with 9 wraps around each side.
(I made everything but the clay itself and the string)
In the future, I should have started with longer string. I had to extend each string (individually) a few times.
My first attempt at a flower brooch, made using a Japanese method.
