Another handcrafted necklace I ran across when working on this week's Looking Close... On Friday challenge: Multicolored Necklace. Not very multicolored but still a cool necklace that deserved being preserved in a photo.

Hallmark Wednesdays at the Bijou Planks...

From the box back:

"The last survivor of the doomed Planet Krypton, Superman burst from the pages of Action Comics nearly seventy years ago. Rocketed to safety from his exploding home world, young Kal-El landed on Earth, where he was found and taken in by a Kansas farm couple.

Lovingly nurtured by his adoptive family, the unusual boy soon realized he possessed extraordinary powers - powers he would use to protect and defend mankind.

Now, as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter, he's a simple citizen of Metropolis - but when danger threatens, this hero bravely rises up to save the people of the world as... SUPERMAN.

Each of the ornaments in this new series will feature a different Comic Book Hero literally bursting from the pages of a miniature comic - with a story you can actually read!

Like VERONICA, these are cameos with yellow roses. A vanilla cream carved clay rose crowns the sunshiney duo. Same measurements as VERONICA Goldfilled earwires.

Blue & Purple Glass with Brass Filigree Chandelier Earrings Handcrafted Jewelry

Stunning drama hanging on brass filigree findings. Bold, but lightweight.

They have a 1 3/4" drop from the bottom of the earwires.

The gorgeous two tone beads are 6mm

This was the first flower embroidery initial I ever made - a 'K' for my mum who bought the Diana Lampe books for me in the first place. I'm guessing it comes from 1995 or 1996 and is easily more 'floral' than later initials I made.

i was thinking of making these as custom projects but i'm not sure they are feasible as each one takes up to two months to complete. i cannot work on one flat out as the inspiration waxes and wanes (or ebbs and flows!) and they're not the easiest protable crafting project since everything has to be kept v clean

My first attempt at making a belt, wearing the result in my Wranglers feels very satisfying. Working with leather was an awesome experience that deepened my appreciation for leather belts and men who wear them.

This quilt was entirely an excuse to make something out of a luscious half yard bundle of Alison Glass's Handcrafted fabric. I added in some coordinating chambrays and played around with improv triangles.

Title: Handcrafted Triangles

Pattern: My own design though the layout of the triangles was inspired by a quilt called Spruce Plantation by Bernadette May on the cover of her book Modern Nature Inspired Quilts

Fabrics: Handcrafted by Alison Glass and Chambrays by Andover. The backing fabric includes the fabric Months of the Year from the line 8 Days a Week by Windham. See a picture of the back here

Quilting: Machine quilted using Connecting Threads Essential Cotton in grey. I quilted three 8" spirals and then added edge to edge curved lines to fill in the area around the spirals. All was done using my walking foot. The lines are about 1/2" apart. See a closeup of the quilting here

Batting: Hobbs Heirloom 80/20

Finished Size: 84" x 98"

Started: January 2015

Completed: May 2015

I had grand plans to quilt this using large overlapping spirals. However, 8" into the first one I knew it was going to involve way too much quilt wrestling. I didn't want to abandon the spirals entirely though so I added two more randomly placed 8" spirals (it would have been more but they were too annoying) and then used much, much easier edge to edge curved lines to fill in the rest. Even though it wasn't what I had originally planned I still love the quilting.

Today was such a nice day :)

I woke up early and went for an awesome 21km run, my 5th half-marathon in 5 weeks, and with only 4 more weeks left until my marathon I'm finally starting to feel ready! The run today was so good, I didn't even feel tired at all near the end, a good sign!

Then I spent about an hour watching reruns of Storage Wars and making this cardboard Polaroid Camera, making things from cardboard is quite therapeutic....I totally suggest it :)

I am still getting over a nasty stomach flu and couldn't go to my son's for the fabulous breakfast he had planned, so next Sunday they will cook the pancakes and sausages and all the rest. For now, little Squirrel Mom is doing her best to feed her crew. ;-) a similar shot will be in my book, The Secret Life of Squirrels, when it comes out in October. I made the pan and bowl and spoons of clay, the rest is mostly cardboard and paper.

having been holed up in my little ELF cupboard for more moments than i care to count, i felt a little twitchy and that little twitchy led to a shuffle...

not a grand big kind of shuffle but the little sort of shuffling that sends the twitches away :)

Mr Deer is now lording over this corner,

along with Blankity Bunnykins, the most loveliest of pesky bunnykins who sailed the seven seas from the fabby Marlous of Planet Fur, to my doorstep!

and some peachy postcards from the talented world of Jane (ATLITW) are now doing a perfectly perfect job of looking pretty... they are tempting me to add to them, whispering words of a postcard wall.

but for now i must resist temptation and finish up my last few ELFING duties so four children may have a gleeful christmas and two of those said four, may have the happiest of happy birthdays...

gosh, this has turned into quite the ramble i feel, perhaps i have been couped up in my little ELF cupboard for too long :)

The 4 mm strong leather I chose for the strap makes the belt thick and heavy. Breaking it in will be a lot of fun :)

When I change an old photo from "private" to "public" does it show up as a newly posted photo? I thought it would still stay buried in my photostream unless I changed the "date posted".
