halftone sharpened, at least that was the intent, and though it looks funny on screen it does seem to produce a better result printing on glossy laser printer paper. The preceding photo becomes too dark. Of course, laser printers are not the first choice for printing photos, but it's fun to see what different effects do.

Detail from the well-known LP cover to the Beatles' penultimate album, Abbey Road, of Paul McCartney's bare right foot behind Ringo Starr's shod one.

The shoeless McCartney, as well as his walking out of step with his Beatles bandmates, were just two of many elements in the Paul is Dead urban legend that originated in a quickly-debunked early-1967 rumor, then resurfaced with vigor for a few months right after the fall-1969 release of Abbey Road. Those helping fuel the hoax termed the Beatles crossing the street on the album cover a “funeral procession,” and even saw symbology in the license plate on the Volkswagen Beetle in the picture.

Twenty-four years later, a still very much alive and fully-shod McCartney would parody the cover and mock the old conspiracy theory, even down to the license plate on a similar VW Bug, on his 1993 Paul Is Live album.

Notes: From one of 925 copies signed by Sandburg and Steichen, this copy 292. Edward Steichen is one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. Born in Luxemburg in 1879, his parents emigrated to the USA when he was three. He led several lives: in the late 19th century, he worked with Alfred Stieglitz and contributed to the establishment of photography as an art medium. In the early 1900s, he went to France and became the official photographer of sculptor Auguste Rodin; he then took some of the world's most iconic photographs (Rodin's Balzac - Rodin & Le Penseur - The Thinker). He was back in France in 1917 as the US Army head of photography. Back in the States he shot what is considered the first fashion photograph of art history and went on to become one of the leading fashion photographers of his time. From 1947 to 1962, he was the head of the photography department at the MOMA in New York. He died in 1973, aged 93

Notes: Arnold Genthe was born in Berlin, Germany in 1869. Upon completion of a degree in classical philosophy at the University of Jena, Genthe took a job as a tutor in San Francisco, California. While in San Francisco, Genthe became fascinated by its Chinatown neighborhood. He taught himself photography to accurately capture its residents. These early photographs are among his most well-known work. In 1897 he opened a studio and began to photograph celebrities, society people, and the changing face of the city, including photos taken in the immediate aftermath of the 1906 earthquake. In 1911 Genthe moved his studio to New York, where he focused mainly on portraits of the wealthy and well-known. He photographed modern dancers and film stars, including Isadora Duncan and Greta Garbo, and became well- known for those images. His portraits were unposed and artistic, mainly in the pictorialist, romantic style, and often used intricate lighting and soft-focus. Genthe was an early experimenter with color photography, and first exhibited color autochromes in 1911. Although primarily known for portrait work, Genthe documented his travels to Japan and Guatemala, and published a book of photographs of New Orleans. Arnold Genthe died on August 9, 1942 in New Milford, Connecticut. (Source: Encyclopedia of 19th Century Photography).

Notes: Léonard Misonne (1 July 1870 – 14 September 1943) was a Belgian pictorialist photographer. He is known for his landscapes and street scenes with atmospheric skies. Misonne is best known for his atmospheric photographs of landscapes and street scenes, with light as a key feature, and as a pioneer of pictorialism. According to the Directory of Belgian Photographers, "Misonne’s work is characterised by a masterly treatment of light and atmospheric conditions. His images express poetic qualities, but sometimes slip into an anecdotal sentimentality." He was nicknamed "the Corot of photography". Misonne devoted himself to photography from 1896, joining the Belgian Photography Association in 1897. He became a leading light in pictorialism, frequently exhibiting his photographs at exhibitions. He also did slide shows. Much of his photography was in Belgium and the Netherlands, but he also visited London, France, Germany and Switzerland. The German occupation of Belgium during World War II greatly restricted his photography.

Happy Holidays everyone!

And Happy Sliders Sunday too. My favorite day of the week!! In this shot, I've altered a previously altered pic. LOL. My "new flower species series", altered for the holidays. (See the mostly real pic in the comments.)

In this pic, Ruffys face is coming at you... 3Dish. LOL. I recolored the Gerber Daisy from pink to red, gave the rest of the background a green halftone effect, etc!! :-) Hope you like.

And hope you enjoy your holidays, whatever they are. :-)
