HERO Community Action:Laramie Project by One Planet Magazine

More than 1000 members of the community and H.E.R.O.'s joined chase away the protest by Fred Phelps.

Extremist Fred Phelps has promised to protest the Laramie Project at Glendale Community College. In past protests he has brought such signs that read “God Hates Fags” “Fags Die God Laughs" and "Matt in Hell."

On Saturday night he was shown that he is not welcomed in the Valley of the Sun.

Wearing red shirts and the wings of angels the community supported the cast, producer, director of the show and GCC.

The show sold out with people still in line hoping to get tickets. Many students wanting to attend the show were provided assistance by the community through generous support so they could view the show for the first time.

The Laramie Project

In October 1998, a 21 year old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of New York's Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of 18 months in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town, whose varying reactions to the crime are fascinating. Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater members constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

So, more snow. But my new developing tank did arrive so I raced out to shoot a roll of Neopan to test not only the tank, but the other tank, the Yaschica Mat.

I should always be prepared for the first few rolls from a new camera - it's all about sussing it out, working with it's foibles. It's also best to try to shoot without a four year old throwing snowballs at you... but that's another issue.

So basically a mixed bag of results. I suppose it's hard to expect to much in conditions like this, particularly with my lackadaisical approach to metering.

So this was the snowman we build in our back garden and when it thawed a little the head took on a kind of downwards lol - the overall effect was, in my mind, to make this look a little 'mother and child'

To be honest, i'm really very bored of the snow now. It's time for a thaw and some lovely hot long summers nights please.

Der Plaine - Morte - Gletscher ( französisch Glacier de la Plaine Morte ) ist ein Plateau-

gletscher auf einer Hochfläche der Berner Alpen im Kanton Bern der Schweiz, zwischen

L.enk im Norden und S.ierre im Süden.

Er hat eine West - Ost - Ausdehnung von 5 Kilometer eine Breite von bis zu 2 Kilometer

und bedeckt eine Fläche von ungefähr 9 km².

Der grösste Teil des Plaine-Morte-Gletschers liegt auf einer Höhe von 2'700 m bis 2'800 m.

Er wird im Nordosten vom W.ildstrubel (BE/VS - 3'244m 1x) und S.chneehorn

(BE/VS - 3'178m), im Süden vom G.rat der F.averges (BE/VS - 2'968m), vom T.othorn

(BE/VS - 2'935m; französisch S.ex M.ort) und der P.ointe de la Plaine Morte (BE/VS - 2'927m),

im Nordwesten vom W.eisshorn ( BE/VS - 2'948m) und dem G.letscherhorn (BE - 2'943m)

flankiert.

Gegen Norden hin ist der Gletscher leicht geneigt und läuft in der schmalen Zunge des

R.ezligletschers auf derzeit 2'480 m aus.

Hier entspringt der T.rüebbach, der mit mehreren W.asserfällen den steilen Felshang hinunter

auf die R.ezlialp fällt und sich dort mit dem Q.uellwasser des S.iebenbrunnens zur S.imme

vereinigt.

Einen weiteren Schmelzwasserabfluss gibt es im S.üdosten des Gletschers über die T.ièche

zur R.hône.

Damit fliesst aus dem Plaine-Morte-Gletscher Wasser sowohl zur N.ordsee als auch zum

M.ittelmeer.

In seinem Hochstadium während der Kleinen Eiszeit Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts reichte der

Plaine-Morte-Gletscher wesentlich weiter den Nordhang zwischen G.letscherhorn und

W.ildstrubel hinunter. Nach dem Rückzug des Gletschers hat sich auf 2'265 m das

R.ezligletscherseeli gebildet.

Das Eisvolumen des Plateaugletscher hat in den letzten 100 Jahren ebenfalls stark abge-

nommen. Im Randbereich des Gletschers haben sich einige zum Teil mit Schmelzwasser

gefüllte Wannen gebildet.

Aus dem Ferienort C.rans-M.ontana im K.anton W.allis führt eine L.uftseilbahn auf die

Pointe de la Plaine Morte, welche das Gletschergebiet erschliesst.

Am S.üdrand des Gletschers gibt es zwei S.kilifte, die das Skifahren auch im S.ommer

ermöglichen. Die weite Gletscherebene (im Flachbereich sind kaum S.palten vorhanden)

eignet sich hervorragend für Skilanglauf.
