For a long time, the three Esmeralda dolls featured in this collage wore simple ribbon headbands on display. I never really liked the way the headbands looked though. So one day, I decided to make them more special hair accessories. The first doll on the left, is wearing a headband made out of an old sock. I painted a design onto the headband (which matches her dress), and then I tied it around her head. My second Esmeralda is wearing a headband made out of an old dress. It's actually the same fabric I used for my "custom" Odette doll's outfit! I simply tore a piece of the dress off (for a more rugged look), and I sewed two small bells on the ends of it. My last Esmeralda is wearing a headband I made out of leftover fabric I had from making my Let's Swim Ariel a top. I actually sewed this headband together, and painted star designs on it using acrylic paint! I think these new headbands do a lot more for the three Esmeralda's wearing them, and they were super fun to make!
My Moxie Girlz Ariel doll was in need of a special hair accessory when I got her. While I liked her original crown, it didn't look like something a mermaid would wear. I've always thought the fabric flowers I used on her looked very aquatic. To make her hair clip extra special, I glued some ribbons underneath the flower before attaching it to the hair clip. Now it looks like she has streamers hanging in her hair!
These girls were watching the bumper cars go round, waiting for their turn.
My camera isn't capable of going above 1600 ISO, and since this Goose Fair wasn't busy until 6pm I was forced to go with it and take the heavy grain. I do like the effect of it, though some may disagree.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This is my favorite Hunchback of Notre Dame fashion by far. There is something so enchanting about the yellow peasant top paired with this vibrant printed skirt. The teal and pink contrast the yellow wonderfully. Granted, this fashion pack isn't fabulous quality. All the Hunchback of Notre Dame ensembles are questionably made. The top portion of this dress is constructed from the sort of fiber that frays super quickly (like my childhood Little Mermaid fashion that was destroyed in weeks). I at least know how to salvage it, by melting any frayed portions and all the hemlines as a preventative measure. The skirt is quite decent, however...just a tad on the thin, stiff side. I recognized this at the local flea market in 2022. We were behind a seller's booth, inspecting the dolls she had yet to put out. There weren't just dolls...a small stash of clothes and accessories were lingering too. If the seller's prices had been more reasonable, I might have spent more time picking things to buy. But she wanted $5 for Nakoma and this dress (I'm not sure if she even noticed Colleen was holding a separate outfit). As a kid, I didn't own a single Hunchback of Notre Dame fashion. I can guarantee this wouldn't have survived my childhood. I would have used it to death...literally. It would have not only been fabulous on my Gyspy Dancing Esmeralda, but also on my Jasmine dolls!

I've had this beautiful panel "Gypsy Caravan" for quite some time in my stash and when I heard that my daughter's family was going to spend their summer holidays in Ireland in a traditional horse drawn gyspy caravan I knew this panel would turn into a cushion for their couch. It is a hand screen printed design by Australian textile designer Kristen Doran and I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. They enjoyed their holidays in Ireland, the horse and the waggon and had a wonderful time there slowly moving through the green landscape.

I have a gypsy soul. One that yearns for adventure and thrives off of the land. One that is happiest when out exploring and feeling free.
This is just a shot of my cousin from this summer. It was just a regular day.
Haha I'm just kidding, she let me make her hair all crazy, and cake her face in makeup, put her in a really strange outfit and then go on to dump her in a giant farmers field and take pictures of her. I love this girl <3

There are numerous tribal people of Rajasthan.
Kalbeliya & Bopa, Rajasthani people were renowned as dancers, snake-charmers & musicians. Once they enjoyed the patronage of the Maharaja courts.
Now, some sell jewellery & hand-crafts & entertain tourists. They are still regarded poorly as low caste, semi-nomadic, 'gypsies', beggars.
However, recognition of Rajasthani folk music & dance is now undergoing revival.& recognition.
Scholars believe that the the Roma 'gypsies' of Europe are ethnically linked &.migrated from NW India in medieval times.
