We weren't really sure whether this chap was a tour guide or part of our group of punters. He sat in the front of the machine and knew quite a lot of stuff about the local area. He loved to climb and encouraged us to scamper up after him wherever he went. He also spoke German.
Freaky.
Based on a search, it looks like these sculptures guide passages in many locations, not just on international borders.
You can see the Peace Arch in the background.
The idea was to guide someone through taking a self-portrait of me, in order to learn to identify with being in front of the lens.
Our guide for this section was in character as Mary Ellen Spear Smith, the first woman MLA in BC.
We went on one of the free tours of the provincial parliament buildings.
We spent our second day playing tourist in downtown Victoria.

i got pressured into getting a guide for the afternoon, they pretty much follow you until you say yes...but he was quite good, lots of local info!
this is bt, our guide at a game lodge in botswana. he was the nicest guy you can imagine.
he had a great eye for photos, but had no camera, even though he lived and worked in one of the most photographically interesting places in the world. when we got home, we sent him a canon dslr. it took months and months to reach him, but eventually we heard that he did get it. we hope he's now happily taking amazing shots.
