Synopsis

I was never actually in the guides. They wouldn't let me join as I was so much trouble in Brownies. But the left patch is a Girl Guides 80s patch of a Kingfisher, the middle is my Pixies patch (I was a firster but I've used my firster and seconder patches on another shirt and coloured them) and the last is a Brownies achievement patch for being funny and entertaining, I believe.

The great thing about the beach is that it presents an entirely different universe from season to season, from day to day, from hour to hour, from second to second, with the ever changing wind, tides, clouds, and sun. A split second with tumbling surf and a sinking sun can make a vast different, resulting in entirely different photographs.

This photo has been taken as part of the scientific effort of the salvage archaeologist team H.U.N.E. to document the Sudanese Arab tribe of the Manasir and their cultural landscape 'Dar al-Manasir' situated at the Fourth Cararact of the River Nile.
The homeland of the Manasir will be submerged by the reservoir lake of the Hamdab High Dam (Merowe Multi-Purpose Hydro Project) in the very near future and all inhabitants have to be relocated by the Sudanese government.

Well its been a while since I posted to this album.. Been very short of time lately!
Anyway, this shot is all about "placement". The dirt road is the main subject, however the guide post is the focal point and the red reflector is the most important part. This photo lends itself to placing the post on the left side, as the road was obviously on the right.
I waited for a passing car to kick up the dust to make the shot more dramatic, and the light was perfect (indeed, it was gone about 30 sec later).
However where to place the post and red reflector? Do I go with Ro3rds? Or a more perverse framing with the reflector right on the edge of the frame? In the end I captured all of these compositions and everything in between and chose my favourite back at home, which happened to be a midway between the edge and Ro3rds composition. The choice really did come down to an aesthetic decision after the fact when I had some time to compare the images side-by-side.
