The Mayor of Dudley got to experience the challenges of life without her sight when she blindfolded through the streets of the town during specialist guide dog training.

So that's my charming volunteer- guide at the Phil. Tarsier Foundation. She was really good, very patient with my frequent lens changing, and went out of the way to show us excellent tarsier sightings, at times even asking us to hold on until a noisy group moved on. She made us walk around bushes or paths to ensure better sightings of the animal the large group had rushed through. Thank you dear. I never got her name, but may her tribe prosper! The Phil. When we had to do our Service Flash (I think it was called that) when we had to look after the Brownies, they would pull at the lanyard and say 'what's this.....?' pulling it at the same time, nearly strangling me!

The Jose Rizal-class of multi-role guided missile frigates, currently in service with the Philippine Navy, are a heavily modified variant of the ROK Navy's Incheon-class frigates. The ships, which were built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), are specifically accommodated to fit the requirements of the Philippine Navy. The frigates will improve the ability of the Philippine Navy's Offshore Combat Force, which is mostly composed of ships that were retired from other countries and subsequently transferred to the Philippines.

The main attraction on Nissi is the 16th-century Pandelimonos Monastery, now the Ali Pasha Museum. Ali Pasha was killed here in the monks' cells on January 17, 1822, after holding out for almost two years. In the final battle, Ali ran into an upstairs cell, but the soldiers shot him through its floorboards from below. (The several "bullet" holes in the floor were drilled there when the original floor had to be replaced.) A wax version of the assassination can be seen at the Pavlos Vrellis Museum of Greek History in Bizani, south of Ioannina. A happier Ali Pasha, asleep on the lap of his wife, Vasiliki, can be seen in the museum's famous portrait. The Ali Pasha Museum also houses the crypt where Vasiliki hid, some evocative etchings and paintings of that era, an edict signed by Ali Pasha with his ring seal (he couldn't write), and his magnificent narghile (water pipe) standing on the fireplace. The community-run museum is generally open as long as boats are running; if the doors are shut, ask around to be let in. The local ticket taker will give a brief tour of the museum in Greek and broken English (supplemented by an English-language printed guide). A tour is free, but do leave a tip.
I have recently discovered the marvellous taste of fresh home made bread and wanted to be able to cut it evenly.
This guide took about 2 hours to design and make from scrap timber.
With a long bladed bread knife it will cut perfectly even thin to extra thick slices from a fresh loaf that I normally leave to cool for about 2 hours.
The little legs stop it from sliding back on the worktop and the thickness is varied by the number of cardboard spacers under the loaf.
Cost nothing and it works !

JAMES OSLER GRIMES
James Osler Grimes, lawyer, is the fourth child of John Grimes and Catharine Gosnel Grimes. His father was born on March 30, 1786, in Baltimore county, Maryland. Until his forty-third year he was a miller at Ellicott's mills, near Baltimore, and after that time he was an agriculturist until called home on October 12th, 1861, in the seventy-seventh year of his age. This patriarch was married, in July, 1815, to Catharine Gosnel, who was born in March, 1792, and died on August 5, 1868. Their children were named Mary Jane, Francis Hooper, Ann Maria, John A., Susan E., Louisa A., William E., and James O. Mr. Grimes moved to Belmont county in 1827, and, in 1859, finally located near Middletown, Oxford township, this county, where he died.
James Osler Grimes, a worthy son of this noble couple, began life's weary round on July 6, 1821, at Merchtown, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, near historic "Old Fort Redstone," from whose vicinity have come many of Guernsey county's best citizens. When six years old he went with the family to Belmont county, and labored on the farm until his twenty-first year. Like the rest of the farmer lads, he attended school during the winter months, and on reaching manhood became himself a teacher. In 1844 he moved to Cambridge, and commenced reading law in the office of W. W. Tracy, and was admitted to the bar in the fall of 1846. In 1853 he was appointed postmaster, and served three years. In 1855 he was elected justice of the peace, and served nine years. From 1875 to 1877 he was mayor of Cambridge. From 1849 to l851, 1871to 1875, and1879 to 1881, Mr. Grimes was prosecuting attorney of this county. In 1851 Mr. Grimes was united in marriage with Mary Clark, daughter of Richard and Martha Clark. Miss Clark was born March 13, 1830, and died on July 5, 1863. Their children were named Martha, Frank, and Mary (deceased), Howard, William E. (deceased), and Ella (living). In1865 he married Sarah Davis, daughter of James and Julia Davis, of Cambridge. She was born in 1842, and has borne him two children, named Jessie Cora and James Walter.

This shows the 2 part tape guide. The 2 parts are insulated from each other by the plastic washer and nylon screw. The lower part (longer) is in contact with the metal chassis. the top (shorter) part is connected to a solder tag on the wire from the announcement recording PCB. A metal foil on the tape connects the 2 parts and thus earths the wire at the end of the tape.
