ideal for finding your bus after a night at the campsite beer tent
Until every other bugger hangs them off their bus as well ...
The male Northern Cardinal is perhaps responsible for getting more people to open up a field guide than any other bird. They’re a perfect combination of familiarity, conspicuousness, and style: a shade of red you can’t take your eyes off. Even the brown females sport a sharp crest and warm red accents. Cardinals don’t migrate and they don’t molt into a dull plumage, so they’re still breathtaking in winter’s snowy backyards. In summer, their sweet whistles are one of the first sounds of the morning.
Many people are perplexed each spring by the sight of a cardinal attacking its reflection in a window, car mirror, or shiny bumper. Both males and females do this, and most often in spring and early summer when they are obsessed with defending their territory against any intruders. Birds may spend hours fighting these intruders without giving up.
One of the most widespread and abundant songbirds in the world today, the House Sparrow has a simple success formula: it associates with humans.

I'll find the diary entry before long. Here's memory for now! My first wife, the lovely Julie, and I were 'house sitting' at her parents in Disley and I was (co-incidentally) working a Sunday Ballast train at Disley Station. She came down to the station to say hello and hopefully travel a yard or two with that class 40 that's lurking under the bridge! Harry Jewitt on the right and....help me out guys of the old Guide Bridge, E Kirk?
Souris East Lighthouse
Prince Edward Island, Canada
This major coastal light guides the ferry between Souris and the Magdalen Islands, as well as other vessels.
The square tapered tower, clad in wooden shingles, stands 45 ' base to vane. It has three flights of stairs leading to the unique shaped cylindrical tall lantern which is completely surrounding by glass windows. This lantern was made by the Chance Brothers of Birmingham, England.
The lantern deck is surrounded by a metal railing which has been raised to meet safety regulation to allow visitors to go out on the deck. It is supported by an ornate wooden bracketed cornice attached to the broad fascia. The windows on the top floor have a shed style roof over them while the lower levels have pediments over the windows and door.
The door to the lantern deck is higher than most, which allows easier access to the lantern deck for maintenance or glass cleaning. Most other lighthouses on PEI have lantern doors approx. 30 inches high.
For many years, three of the panels facing inland were covered over with a thick coat of paint that prevented the light from flashing on houses along that side. In 2009, this paint was removed except a small portion that displays a white Canadian Maple Leaf on a red background.
The tower houses an collection of pictures, equipment and the 4th order bull's eye lens which was returned to the tower in 2011. A number of other Island lighthouses have weight shafts in place, but Souris has the only complete weight system. The keeper had to climb the tower every 3 hours and 15 minutes to rewind the mechanism which rotated the light. There is also an extensive collection of seaglass.
Historic Data:
Souris, North Cape and Cape Egmont are the only three lighthouses on Prince Edward Island that have telecommunications equipment which directs air and sea traffic throughout the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
The wooden tower was constructed in 1880 and an attached dwelling was built in 1881. An oil shed was built in 1911. A pump house was added about 1947. In 1951 the old barn was torn down. A storage shed was added prior to 1957. The dwelling was detached in 1959 and moved from the site. The new dwelling which was built in 1959 was written off in July, 1991, and removed. The size of the site was increased over the years from a plot measuring 85 feet by 45 feet to 0.87 of an acre by 1957.
A fog alarm building was erected on the breakwater, off the site, in 1955, but the fog alarm was later transferred to the shed on the property during the 1980's. All fog alarms were discontinued on PEI about 2000.
One of the first mercury vapour lamps used by the Canadian Coast Guard was installed here in 1961. This experiment was so successful that it became the standard for All Canadian Lighthouses.
For many years the buildings were surrounded by a high metal fence which was removed when the property was transferred to the Souris Harbour Authority in 2009.
The site today includes the tower and a new building which houses a gift shop and washrooms.

... hot on the heels of my last purchase I picked up this book. I don't like to use strategy guides as they give away too much. It's tough to ignore all the give-aways in this one, but I bought it for the Sinnoh pokedex reference, the battle type charts, and some basic strategy stuff on pokemon that I wanted to make sure I understood.

In this video, discusses eight signs that will let you know if your ex wants you back.
1. Is your ex contacting you regularly?
If your ex is making telephone calls or personal visits to you, it is a very good sign that they still care about you? Of course, you must understand that if they are making these contacts to discuss unpaid bills or personal property that may have left behind, it’s probably not because they’re still in love.
2. Does your ex want to hang out with you?
If your ex wants to do social things with you, you may assume that he or she is trying to bridge the gap between you.
3. Do they ask to be friends with you?
If your ex says he or she wants to remain friends and do things with you as “friends” you may assume that there is still something about you that he or she is unwilling to give up completely.
4. Is your ex talking about you to friends?
If you have mutual friends or co-workers and your ex is talking to them about you in positive ways, it is a clue that you are still on their mind and they are still concerned about you.
5. Do they bring up inside jokes or make sexual innuendos?
If, when your ex is interacting with you, they may bring up things that only the two of you know about…memories of good times together, a particular event that was romantic and happy for you…or if they toss in a reference to sex, you may be certain that he or she is hoping to connect with you again.
6. Does your ex flirt with you or often touch you?
These are courting postures which are generally invitations to become more closely involved. Particularly after a break-up they are not likely to be leftover behaviors, but rather new signs that there might be hope of rekindling your relationship.
7. Is he or she jealous of you?
Jealousy of your activities and of whom you might be seeing is not necessarily a dead give away that there is a make-up in your future. Some people just like to own others. That being said, if your ex is showing signs of jealousy, it probably does mean that he or she wants to renew your relationship.
8. Does your ex seem “down” about your breakup?
If your ex is showing outward signs of not handling the break-up well – if he or she appears depressed or cries when you are around – it’s a good sign that he or she is not happy with the decision to break up.
By being aware of these eight signs that your ex still wants you, you can either take the opportunity to get closer, or to move away, depending upon what you want.

Steam under the wires on Platform 2 at Guide Bridge station Manchester. This shot of Stanier 8F 2-8-0 45356 was taken from the platform while en route from Heaton Mersey shed in Stockport to Newton Heath shed in Manchester. Another underexposed shot but a good record of our footplate journey. 48356 is pulling another 8F 48319 & British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92118. Myself and my mate Barry travelled in the cab of the 9F.
Amazingly on one of the commercial videos of the end of steam the cavalcade was filmed entering Guide Bridge station a few minutes earlier. We were out of sight as the driver told us to keep our heads down passing the signal box.
48356 has caught the 2 schoolboys' attention. I wonder how many more times a steam engine passed through Guide Bridge?
Today like many former railway centres Guide Bridge is a shadow of its former self with just two platforms, devoid of distinctive buildings and awnings, swamped by weeds and only served by electric multiple units on the branch line to Hadfield since the GCR Woodhead through route was closed.
The star of Bethlehem was a star of hope that led the wise men to the fulfillment of their expectations, the success of their expedition. Nothing in this world is more fundamental for success in life than hope, and this star pointed to our only source for true hope: Jesus Christ.
