This was a little something I put together for a friend. It's not quite a sewing diagram for a maiko hikizuri, but it provides very detailed measurements which you can use to create your own maiko hikizuri. These are the measurements I used to create my Harunohana hikizuri (kurokami-kanzashi.deviantart.com/art/Harunohana-363332009 ) - it includes measurements for where to place the body extension in order to make a regular kimono into a hikizuri. All the measurements in this diagram are based off of those of the authentic maiko hikizuri in my collection. The drawing is not exactly to scale, but it is fairly close.
I apologize for the tiny text, but it was the only way to get it all to fit. If you wish to view the text more clearly, please view the image at full size to see the text more clearly.

Some 'sad bags' on the quayside, the exec case (containing timetable, notes and four cans of beer) is mine! Just arrived at Mallaig by train from Glasgow and about to board this on the twice weekly direct service to Kyle that meant you could do the Mallaig line and the Kyle line in one day!
The snap is none too good but is evidence that there was once a frequent (possibly hourly) service between Stockport and Stalybridge, calling Reddish South, Denton and Guide Bridge stations on the way.
For many years between the 1960s and 1980s two-car dmus were frequently to be found on this service. Here one such 2-car set comes under the wires of the 1500v dc Woodhead route as it crosses Stockport Junction (signal box in the background) to enter Guide Bridge station before heading off via Guide Bridge North to Stalybridge.

Guide Bridge overview with Class's 25 & 76 on view. 17th August 1974. The back end of 76032 is just getting into shot with an unidentified white roofed 76 behind it and 76010 to the right of that. The two 25's and the 76 to the left of them remain unidentified.
This is the models overview that I have used. It is very comprehensive and gives a lot of detailed information about all model changes over the years.

Back in the late 1950s, Kusan-Auburn, Inc. manufactured a line of O Gauge electric trains to compete with Lionel. Besides ready-to-run sets, they also produced a line of low priced, unassembled kits of various rolling stock.
Keeping in step with the missile mania of the Cold War Era, the company, using the brand KMT, rolled out an Atomic Train set. Two of the cars, the Atomic Cannon and Guided Missile Car, were also sold in kit form. Retail for the Cannon, which could shoot wooden projectiles, was $2.98. The Missile Car retailed for $1.79 and, despite being described as an Honest John in sales material, the missile was fictitious and bore no resemblance to any guided weapon in the U.S. arsenal. Kits of two additional pieces of equipment, a Radar Car and a Searchlight Car, were announced, but there is no evidence that they were ever produced.
This is a very old photo of an even older build.

Originally known as "Ashton and Hooley Hill", it was renamed "Ashton" in February 1842 and became "Guide Bridge" in July 1845. It was built by the Sheffield, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Manchester Railway on its new line from Ardwick Junction, near to the Manchester and Birmingham Railway's terminus at Store Street, (now Piccadilly) to Sheffield, opening on 11th November, 1841 as far as Godley Toll Bar and finally reaching Sheffield on 14th July, 1845.
The station originally had a 4 platform configuration with a large office on the southern side. However, this (along with 2 platforms and associated tracks) was removed after the 1980s. Today the area has been covered and used as access for the southern platform, but some evidence remains of the previous 2 tracks.
With the electrification of the Manchester–Sheffield (via Woodhead) line in the early 1950s, Guide Bridge, already a major centre of railway operations, increased in importance. Express trains called here, as well as EMU trains between Manchester London Road and the north Derbyshire towns of Glossop and Hadfield. There were also Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) services from Manchester London Road (Piccadilly) to Macclesfield, Stockport Edgeley to Stalybridge and to Oldham (via the Oldham, Ashton & Guide Bridge Railway, which closed to passengers in 1959).
The station was also where Express Trains to and from Manchester Central on the London Marylebone route, changed locomotive. Drawn by a Bo-Bo or Co-Co Electric Locomotive from Sheffield, a Steam or in later years Diesel Locomotive would take the train the final few miles to Manchester Central and vice versa. The Woodhead Line was busy with freight traffic, especially with coal traffic from South Yorkshire to Lancashire power stations. The station also accepted freight under British Railways "Passenger" freight service and had a licensed Buffet.
There was a large marshalling yard about a mile east of Guide Bridge at Dewsnap. There was also a stabling point immediately to the east of Guide Bridge station where engines could be fuelled. Guide Bridge was also where the local Retail Coal Merchants transferred Coal from British Rail Coal wagons, carefully weighed into One Hundredweight sacks for delivery to homes around Ashton, Audenshaw and Denton. Express passenger trains via the Woodhead line ceased operation on 5 January 1970, but Dewsnap sidings and Guide Bridge stabling point were busy until the final closure of the Woodhead Line (east of Hadfield) on 20 July 1981. The Class 76 electric locomotives were a frequent sight here, along with Class 25, Class 40 and numerous others classes of diesels.
The former TransPennine Express operator, Arriva Trains Northern, had plans to establish Guide Bridge as a major interchange station, coupled with hopes that the Woodhead line might re-open. Such aspirations seem to have fallen by the wayside, however, since First/Keolis took over the TransPennine Express franchise
On 22nd October, 2006 a fire gutted the waiting room, footbridge and ticket office. The fire has subsequently been attributed to arson and caused around £1m of damage to the station, necessitating the demolition of the footbridge. This has not been rebuilt, necessitating a lengthy walk out of the station and along the adjacent main road to change platforms.

DEATH IN THE ANGEL'S ARMCHAIR (MOSI OA TUNYA)
by: PABLOREMOS
I lost a dear family friend in August 2011 atop the great falls, in the Angel's Armchair (a similar spot to the Devil's Pool. We had a local guide who offered to take us to the secluded pool at the edsge of the falls. It was a fateful trek across the edge of the Zambezi. Three of us went hand in hand and only two of us returned. Our Zemba dived into the pool from a cliff above the pool, copying the guide who showed us what we could do if we so wished. I chose not to. I filmed Zemba as he elected to live in the moment... Heartbreaking.

These plants have been used by people for visionary and ceremonial purposes since time immemorial. They are an immense gift to humankind, and have shaped and enriched our culture. Many of these plants are to be used with great caution due to their powerful effects.
