A juvenile wood duck, well on its way to becoming an adult wood duck.

I was riding home at the end of June from a bicycle trip to Waterford, and there were some grads and parents in the park taking photos. This little park is Brantford's "flower power" park, with formal beds that are changed every year.

My friend Laura and most of her family at the lake. (Missing her oldest daughter who was "somewhere" nearby, off with friends having fun at the lake also.)

Dedicated to Laura and her teenage daughter and the rest, and to spratmackrel who also has a growing daughter . . . also, this link is dedicated to all of the parents of either daughters or sons that I know who are living life "in the trenches" as modern parents in a hurry-up world:

Growing up on an old railway sleeper

Thanks for visiting my photo! I really appreciate your comment and fav! Wishing you a lovely day! :)

This spells satisfaction and innocence combined to me. This is all you really need from Santa if your age three. This youngster is now a grown man. I wish Christmas was a simple as this for all of rest of us. I used a slight dry brush treatment on this for a painterly feeling. Happy Holidays everyone.

He's still my little and sweetest boy, but don't tell him I said that. They grow too fast.

30 June 1968 - Stephen with Jenny on left arm and Robyn on right.

We're going to celebrate the anniversary of one of the greatest days in our life. Our first grandchild's birthday. A miracle that blessed our family and brightened our lives.

Day after: She was thrilled with the little Canon I bought for her birthday. It's already been well used. The grandson, her younger brother, was thrilled too. He inherited her camera that I had given her back in March this year. She's quite the young artist and her keen eye for beauty translates into photography.

My wife has just received an illuminated makeup mirror with 5x magnification. Of course I immediately stole it from her to fire up my creative juices.

20 August 1966 - Stephen & David at Kernot

My son and three other children on the trip begged the adults to be allowed to build and sustain there own fire. Amazingly enough no one got burned and they respected our wishes and the fires.

When I was much younger, I always thought that by the time I'm 20, I'd be feeling all grown up. Turns out, I didn't. Even after the arrival of my little monster almost two years ago, I still feel like a child sometimes: when I'm being irrational, or wanting to escape responsibilities, or when I realize I'm a lot more naive than I think. It surprises me but I have to admit to myself that sometimes, I'm still that little girl.

ADDED 11/15/2007: YAY!!!! This photo made #330 on explore! FINALLY! A photo of mine other than pictures of my cakes, has made it.

A tooth is loose. He didn't want to go to see the train museum today ("It's for babies", he said). I'm feeling a bit blue. I suppose this is why I shot this of him today at the park.

Had to use canva to get this to fit correctly here to share it. Took this probably 2-3 years ago and forgot about it until I came across it a couple of months ago and was like yep, scan and share lol. It’s fitting because in two days - the start of Polaroid Week and Easter, he turns 11 years old. Back in 2014, he was born on Easter Sunday then too. He’s less of a cowboy now and more into dirt bikes and 4-wheelers and I’m okay with that. He’s also less willing to let me take pictures of him and that, I’m not ready for. Or for how fast he keeps hitting growth spurts!

Chapter One of Eric Clapton's biography is "Growing Up" and I guess that is a perfect beginning for Laura's Challenge of today!

The winter wheat is coming up

“Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.”

- Samuel Ullman

This is from a series Cory and I took in April. I never posted this one and I just came across it again and was remembering that great day and how fun I thought this photo was. I adore red (shocking, I know).

I've been thinking a lot about what it means to be young and starting out and trying to find your direction in life. Some days are much easier than others. Some days I know just who I am and that I have made all the right choices and other days I feel that I have thrown myself into an abyss that I can't climb out of.

I guess it's just the perils of growing up in this constantly changing world...

Thank you for your favourites. :O)

yesterday was bitter sweet. as most of you know, i have been watching this little family for quite some time. They live(d) on my front porch. on mother's day, i did a tribute to Lucile (the momma bird). Over the past couple of weeks, i have been watching the babies grow up.

Yesterday i got home from work and they were all three in the nest, peeking their heads out and barely fitting. I knew it wasn't going to be long.

Then, I went and peeked around 7pm, and the nest was empty. They had all left. I'm so disappointed that i missed this. I keep hoping i'll spot the babies hopping around somewhere. but i know i probably won't.

I don't have kids of my own, but the whole event struck something in me. It happened sooooo fast! I loved every step of process...just miraculous. I feel worried about these babies, being in the big world, but am happy that they get to spread their wings and fly.

Best wishes to Henry, Charles and Phoebe. I know you'll do great. And Lucile, what a wonderful mom you were. :)

and a HUGE thank you to mojodale for doing the PS work on these TERRIBLE PHOTOS! you are the master!! :)

My son finishes elementary school this week. So many things about him are so grown up, but he's still so small compared to this world. My wish for him is that his "dragons" never die....

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,

Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,

And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail

Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,

Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came,

Pirate ships would lower their flag when Puff roared out his name.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys

Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.

One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more

And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,

Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.

Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,

So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave.

Caro babbo,

Inutile discutere

D'accordo non saremo mai

Che cosa c'e di strano in cio

Trent'anni ci separano

O forse

C'e il timore in te

Di non trovare piu la forza

D'essere al mio fianco

Se gli ostacoli mi fermano.

Dear father,

It's useless to argue

We'll never agree

There's nothing strange with that

Thirty years separate us

Or maybe

You are afraid

Not to find the strength

To stand by my side

If the obstacles should stop me

Every child including you and me way back when is a little miracle, a bundle of energy learning everyday. My wonderful grandchild number two is so much fun. (so is number one!) she knows just what to do in a pile of autumn leaves with a little help from her dad and mom. Surprise!. Oh boy lets do it again and again and again . By the way "again" is one of her favorite new words. This photo was taken by my son a great guy. Blessings.

This little charmer is my new favourite to photograph. She loves showing off for the camera and I love getting to document her growing up. Currently 11 weeks old and full of mischief...

My young neighbor Howie believes that his dad is a hero...and he's right. Big shirt. Big shoes.

Family value is universal and it is so unarguably politically correct. And as a result, we are all one family no matter you are at home or in the workplace, community, county, nation or global village.

But from the bottom of your heart, who is your family?

We got this Lego knockoff camera and I ended up building it. Still had to have each kiddo pose with it though!

Whether human or feathered, a father's role is to protect and nurture its young and teach them life lessons in order that they may grow up, become independent, and survive. To all of the dads out there, including my own, thank you for all that you do. :-)

Pictured is a black-necked stilt dad showing how it does just that with its newly born babies. Black-necked stilt parents share the role of incubating the nest, and taking care of the young, who incidentally are equipped and expected to feed themselves from the start. The parents play a role in showing them how it's done a protecting them from harm while they're foraging for food.

Happy Father's Day! Thanks for stopping by to view.

Feel at home

When the tears come streaming down your face

When you lose something you can't replace

When you love someone but it goes to waste

Lights will guide you home (...)

Fix you

As I grow older my relationship with the concept of 'home' becomes more and more dualized.

The ties are multiplying but the wanderlust never ceases.
