The Green Bee-eater is a gorgeous bird with bright green feathers, a striking black eye-stripe, a stunning blue throat and a golden-brown crown and nape. I observed this at one of my favorite birding spots in India, an under-birded oasis that was just teeming with birdlife. Thanks to my dad for showing me the place and taking me there multiple times.
Typical NZ combination, rolling green grass, blue sky, fluffy white clouds. Captured on the coast between Dunedin & Moeraki.

Strobist info: Vivitar 285 at 1/16 with colored gel for background. Gridded 580EXII trough diffuser paper on 1/8th from slight camera right angle. (DIY diffuser grid)

A scarce bamboo page (Philaethria dido) rests for a moment on a leaf. I wanted to get this in a portrait layout, but after three previous attempts resulted in this particular butterfly flying off while rotating my camera, I felt it best to limit my movement and made do with landscape.
Ah, the pain that is trying to figure what you are going to move and what you are going to leave behind. Getting ready to move stinks :P
That pretty much sums up my day. It was mostly spent with me sitting on the floor sorting. Thus, I dressed for comfort. This skirt (thrifted a few days ago) is my new favorite skirt. It has rickrack! yay!

Now this is something I've never seen before a Green Tiger Beetle abberation with one blue and one green wing case. I initially thought the odd colouring was due to the angle of the sun until I got up close.
I took this for a post about the colours purple and green on my blog.
I'm not really superstitious. But. I took this picture last night when suddenly, my camera went black. After turning it off and on several times, it finally seemed to work properly again, but I decided to just take out the card, download the pics on my computer and leave the camera alone for the rest of the day.
Blogger seems to have had some major problems as well yesterday. I couldn't access it at all all day. When I got back home after work, it was working again, but when I opened the draft of my post on purple and green I had been working on during the week, it was all gone apart form the inital two pictures I'd uploaded. I was so frustrated. But then I decided to just turn off the computer and hope that the next day, everything would be back to normal. And it was. I haven't turned on my camera yet, but I really hope that there won't be any problems with it either.
Unfortunately, I didn't pay entough attention to white balance (which I really find the most difficult thing in photography), and as a result, the purple turned out rather bluish instead of the reddish tinge it acutally has, and looks rather strange. I love that mug. It's at least 30 years old.

I went to this location to see if I could find green hairstreaks there, having had help from Mark Searle as to their being there.
Initially I looked in the wrong area but eventually I found areas where they were being seen. I saw at least 3 different ones in different spots, though one was most cooperative.
We spent some time in the gardens of Catarata del Toro, as there were lots of flowers, feeders and hummingbirds. My husband discovered that the hummingbirds seemed to visit this flower a lot, so we patiently waited for them to come by.
Don't ask me why this girl is called a Green Hermit - I thought she looked more blue than green.
