Once there were green fields kissed by the sun
Once there were valleys where rivers used to run
Once there were blue skies with white clouds high above
Once they were part of an everlasting love
We were the lovers who strolled through green fields
THE BROTHERS FOUR

45118 catches the late afternoon winter sun heading away from the camera near Greenfield with 11:24 Newcastle - Liverpool Lime St.
Haven't been to the location in many years. Not sure how close this could be replicated today with 45118 and a set of pressure vent Mk2s.
We headed down to the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum markets yesterday and drove down to Vincentia afterwards. This is Greenfields Beach - just north of Chinamans Beach and Hyams Beach. How clear is that water?
I didn't really partake in the Hoosac Tunnel detour train frenzy, only chasing a couple of the trains from Vernon, Vt to East Deerfield MA, which I felt was a somewhat under-covered section of the diversion route, relatively speaking. I suppose that doesn't make me a true New England railfan. :)
At any rate, here's the first of the pair, a detoured 16R with a company painted B40 coming off the Conn River at CPF 385 in Greenfield MA on a sparkling March morning.
46039 is on time with 1M67 the 10.02 Newcastle to Liverpool service running down from Greenfield towards Mossley on 15.10 1977
ST RJED is seen navigating through CPF-385 onto the Greenfield Industrial track with 3 of 5 remaining blue dipped SD40-2's providing power.
I'm a bit overwhelmed with the number of photos I have to share from my recent trip to Maine. I thought I'd start with a few I took on the way up & back. Friends in Massachusetts provided rest stops for me, so I didn't need to use the highway bathrooms. One of five images. This was taken during a neighborhood walk in Greenfield, Massachusetts, USA on May 21, 2021. So many homes had lovely flowers! Poppy is one of my favorites!
Visit to Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan on September 9, 2017. This farm wagon along the road to the Firestone Farmhouse (where Harvey Firestone was raised) is full of character.

My birthday outing to my "happy place", Greenfield Village, was two days after my birthday (since the Village is only open Thursday–Sunday now).

In February 1986 twin Australian National (AN) GM class locos GM44/GM31 have just departed Dry Creek yard (Adelaide) as they pass through suburban Greenfields with train no.1289 to Port Augusta
The second unit still carries the livery of its original owner The Commonwealth Railways, despite ownership transferring to the re-constituted AN eight years earlier.

Perhaps the prettiest photo prop on the Greenfield Village property is this barn-red cider mill, which contains presses which are designed to crush apples and make that sweet, tangy drink we all love. In this image, Detroit & Lima Northern Locomotive #7 rolls past that cider mill, giving us a little smoke show as she heads back to the village entrance just before the facility closes for the day. While rail photographers love this little structure, the railroaders tell me they have mixed emotions about it. The track here, which wraps tightly around the west side of that building unfortunately makes it a bit difficult for the engine crews to clearly see the unguarded grade crossing, giving them little time to react to pedestrians who may not be paying the proper level of attention.
Greenfield Village was dedicated by Henry Ford in 1929. Located in Dearborn, Michigan, it is the oldest outdoor heritage museum in the United States. Close to 100 historic structures and replica buildings are scattered around the 90 acre Village.
Dovestones Walk...
Walking up from Dovestones Reservoir we soon passed Yeoman Reservoir and the on and past Greenfield Reservoir. After a pleasent walk along a well made up path the walk became a scramble, but more of that tomorrow.

BR Class 47, No 47466 approaches Greenfield Signal Box on the Diggle line. Originally I did not have the train working info until I checked the Class 47 Archives website. The info suggested it was 1S41 09.33hrs Liverpool to Glasgow Central via Newcastle. mmm a nice tour of Northern England I would say, these days the train would be simply cancelled! 19th April 1987.
