Train at Greenfield Village near Detroit, Michigan.

Now part of the Nugent House School estate, Greenfield House is an early 19th century Grade-II listed two-storey house to the west and south of Carr Mill Rd. It appears by name on George Hennet's map of Lancashire, surveyed in 1828 and 1829*, but is absent from Christopher Greenwood's county map which had been surveyed a decade earlier**.

The listing citation reads-

“House now school. Early C19. Stone with slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. 1st floor sill band and top cornice. Windows have flat jambs, wedge lintels and 4/4 sashes. Central entrance has segmental head, inset Doric doorcase and complete fanlight; 3-panel door with fielded panels. Brick end stacks. Right return has some sashed windows with glazing bars. Interior has dog-leg stair with wooden balusters and iron panels.”

The exterior photograph was taken on 9 April 2015. The staircase was photographed on 21 June 2019.

*As published in 1830 by Henry Teesdale; a section -with “Greenfield Ho” highlighted in blue- is shown above left. Hennet is known to have anticipated certain developments. For example the Customs House at Liverpool and some railway and canal extensions are shown on the map as if already built but were not actually completed until after 1830.
