The African Green Pigeon is a small to medium-sized bird that measures around 23-28 cm in length.
It has a distinctive green plumage with a yellowish-green head and neck, and a bright red bill.
The wings and tail are dark brown or black, and the eyes are surrounded by a bright red eye-ring.
The male and female have similar plumage, but the male has a slightly larger bill.
They are found in forests and woodlands across sub-Saharan Africa, and feed on fruits and seeds.
They are known for their soft cooing calls and are often seen in small flocks.
Many of the old fences in Portsmouth display the Portsmouth (Corporation) logo. I loved the combination of yellow, green and brown colours in this shot. HFF!
Silverdale, Lancashire. Another nearly picture, taken backwards from my spot towards the sun and through a bush.
Saw my first Green Hairstreak yesterday and here it is, perched aloft some freshy young Hawthorn leaves. Both butterfly and plant pristine in their youthfulness!
Like the truer sense of scale in this image, for me its a change from getting close in and wanting maximum details.
Also, the bee was a bonus - all carefully planned I can assure you! :)
At the north end of Prince Edward Islands is the house that inspired the book series. It was actually the home of Lucy Maud Montgomery's cousin whom she spent a lot of time with as a child.
I can't take the credit for finding this Green Woodpecker's nest, a friend Bondy Taylor did the hard work, I just rocked up and took some pics !! Well done Ray :o)
The canopy had greened up a lot by August, making it quite dark, so this is pretty high ISO.
Green Woodpecker feeding Chick.

The green basilisk lizard is also called a plumed or double-crested basilisk; but its amazing ability to run on water gives this species its most recognizable moniker: the Jesus Christ lizard. They grow to a length of two feet. (animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/reptiles/green-bas...)
Male Green woodpecker, Picus viridis _ männliche Grünspecht
This woodpecker was making an awful lot of noise yesterday morning. He was sat on the ridge of a house opposite and although he was about 30 meters away, even with a 500mm lens, it was too far. This is a crop. Taken freehand.
A Grasshopper in serach of food. It is very hard to spot them in naked eye as they mingle with the surrounding green so well.
Just liked the way the leaves been illuminated by the sun. & Green's been my favorite color lately =P
* This was taken during one of our late afternoon walk with my mother nearby the river bank. missing those days already.
