Grays Peak (14,270 ft), seen from the summit of Torreys. Sorry the sky is so blown-out, but this shot gives you a good view of Grays' massive northern slopes, which are what you hike up from the Stevens Gulch Trailhead. In fact, you can see the lines of the trails going up to Grays, down from Grays to the saddle between the two 14ers, & also the trail you take from the saddle to hook back up with the main trail.

The gray wolf is a species of canid native to the wilderness and remote areas of North America, Eurasia, and the Horn of Africa. It is the largest member of its family, with males averaging 95-100 lbs, and females 80-85 lbs.
The gray wolf is one of the world's most well researched animals, with probably more books written about it than any other wildlife species.
Grays Peak (14,270 ft) and Torreys Peak (14,267 ft).
While hiking out, I saw this stream down to the right of the trail and thought, "You know, I bet I could get a really cool shot from down there." The keyword, though, being down... meaning that after getting the shot, I'd have to climb the steep hillside back up to the trail. No big deal, except I'd just summited two 14ers. After getting this shot, climbing back up that hillside to the trail just about kicked my butt.

The Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), is a wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in the milder south and west, but many birds retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions.
Its plumage is largely grey above, and off-white below. Adults have a white head with a broad black supercilium and slender crest, while immatures have a dull grey head. It has a powerful, pinkish-yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults. It has a slow flight, with its long neck retracted (S-shaped). This is characteristic of herons and bitterns, and distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills, which extend their necks. The call is a loud croaking "fraaank". It feeds in shallow water, catching fish, frogs, and insects with its long bill. Herons will also take small mammals, reptiles and occasionally warbler nestlings, plovers, young and adult snipes, takes ducklings and tern chicks and other small birds.
