This grasshopper was found on a bush down in the riverbed of the Llano River. He/She would never give me a clear view in the sunlight. I was drawn to the color and texture of the grasshoppers body and legs.

Another grasshopper that kept me company for a short time.
The three of us decided to go back the next day and give hiking Mount Adaklu a second shot. It was a sticky day, but not raining. Unfortunately, I never made it to the top - I just never got into a comfortable rhythm with the uphill mud and loose rockiness of it. I got to just below the cave, which, from what I hear, had great views (not to mention the missed views from the top).
On the up side, I also missed a snake and getting attacked by fire ants on one of the rope-climb descents (the ants were swarming the rope and there was no way to escape them).
I think a field grasshopper. It was paler than the photo suggests - it was siting a glass door with the sun set reflecting on it.

Wondering how I did this one? Simple.....I put the grasshopper in a clear drinking glass with a piece of white paper under it. I then set something behind the glass so I could prop up the white paper behind the glass giving me the background. This whole set up was done outside using natural light. When the grasshopper jumped up on the glass, I started getting my shots. Nikon D90 with Sigma 150mm macro lens on a Manfrotto tripod.
Dont worry about the safety of the grasshopper. He was only in the glass for a total of 10 minutes and he was immediately set free after the photo session =0)
Is it a cricket or a grasshopper?
Not on the ground, but up a brick wall. About 2cm long.

Grasshoppers are species which change colour and behaviour at high population densities are called Grasshoppers the typical insect body of head, thorax and abdomen. The head is held vertically, at an angle to the body with the mouth at the bottom. It bears a large pair of compound eyes which give all-round vision, three simple eyes which can detect light and dark and a pair of antennae which are sensitive to touch and smell. The downward-directed mouthparts are modified for chewing and there are two sensory palps in front of the jaws.
