I was able to photograph it in East Tyrol (Austria) on a mountain meadow, in summer. usually grasshoppers are not that colourful in Austria. I was really happy to discover them in the grass 😊
Grasshoppers are insects of the order Orthoptera, suborder Caelifera. They are sometimes referred to as short-horned grasshoppers to distinguish them from the katydids (bush crickets) which have much longer antennae. They are typically ground-dwelling insects with powerful hind legs which enable them to escape from threats by leaping vigorously.
Made a new friend this day. This sparrow stayed with us, buzzing in our ears all day.

I made my annual visit to Otmoor RSPB yesterday and was lucky enough to get some fantastic all be it brief views of this Grasshopper Warbler which was a real treat. Unfortunately however I didn't see or hear any Turtle Doves the main reason for the visit which was a bit of a shame and a disappointment :-(
One from last year, I managed a few shots of this one on the one encounter. This was at the end of the day so the light was not on my side.
Thank you all for your taking the time to view/comment on my images, much appreciated :)
The Lubber can be 6 inches long when completely mature. The orange color tells predators that it is toxic. But if another animal insists on bothering it, it will spray it with irritating foam, accompanied by a loud, frightful hissing sound.
Not going to try guessing species...

Resting on a big Hosta leaf, this Differential Grasshopper allowed me to get some decent shots of it.
This species is known for its distinctive chevron markings on the hind legs, which can be seen above.

Grasshopper Sparrow on Mayfield Road near Boise, Idaho
"The stubby-tailed and bull-necked Grasshopper Sparrow is easy to overlook throughout its range. When not singing its quiet, insectlike song from atop a stalk in a weedy pasture, it disappears into the grasses where it usually runs along the ground rather than flies."
Locustella naevia
Seems to be more of these arriving this year. Heard at least 6 different birds this morning
