Graphite on vellum, approximately 75" x 38". Drawn blindly while listening to an 12-minute field recording of a tree trimmer at a public park in Cairo. Right side = right hand = right ear, left side = left hand = left ear.
This is a graphite arch that people with flat foot put in their shoes to support up their low arch. Graphite is an allotrope of carbon. It is used in this case because it is hard enough to support people's arch while at the same time not too hard as other metal elements will be on people's feet. Only the middle black patch you see is made up of graphite.
Finished my first attempt at the male physique after doing my first female one in my Battle Sister Eden picture! ([link] ). Have to even up the gender odds!
Next time I'm going to choose one WITHOUT a tattoo!!

This is done on A4 Bristol Smooth (8”x12” but had a tiny 5mm border around the edge for me to hold...now cropped out ) using 2H – 8B Graphite pencils and a lot of time and swearing (bloody tattoooooo!!!).
I could darken the background a bit more and just constantly keep fiddling with it...but it's time to post!
Fullview is a LOT bigger than real life size (see above), so you can see all the technical flaws heh! *Updated image as I saw some blotches *
Hmm really need to improve my tonal values! Not made some of the dark areas dark enough....something for next drawing! I am pleased with how his hands turned out though!!
Hope you like it, I think it's one of the best I've done from a technical point, but tons to learn still! Comments and criticism welcome!
