It's trying to express a concept, y'know, that my work and myself are ONE. The letter-size version looks better than the A4 version; the proportions read better.

T-Shirt Design by Thurgood Marshal High School Students

Students were asked to design a t-shirt that was inspired by the word "highway". "Highway" was chosen as the subject of their design since this major cityscape feature is visible from the windows of their classroom. Each student designed their t-shirt using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. When they were finished, the designs were printed directly onto the shirts and heat set. The printing of the shirts was made possible by a generous donation of services by Mr. Willis.

Students at Thurgood Marshal found this project to be rewarding, as they proudly wore their shirts around campus for several days after the completion of the project. This has prompted many of the other students around campus to take an interest in industrial arts, as well as the creative arts.

Unfortunately i was not there the day of installation and operation, but it has been a real pleasure and a great honor to work on such a project. My partner and team leader is Éric Payen.

David Shaw used statistics gleaned from a recent Design Council survey to arrive at the figures shown on this giveaway badge, roundly calculating that 1 in every 400 in the UK population is a communication designer. The badge is set in Graphik, designed by Christian Schwartz and also used for the GraphicDesign& identity. The ampersand was redrawn by Schwartz to foreground the ‘et’ ligature and emphasise the connectivity that underpins the social enterprise.

"Parents should give their children two things: roots and wings. They should give them roots so that they always know their way home if they need to come back and wings to let them go so that they can embrace their talents and live their own lives,"
