USB to I2C/SPI adapter. This is my first board with a significant number of surface mount components (after which I swore not to design thru-hole boards if I could help it). The main chip on here is a Microchip PIC18F2550 microcontroller with onchip USB. Also contains onboard 3.3V linear regulator so you can choose whether to run your chip (and therefore I2C/SPI I/Os) on 3.3V supply or 5V supply.
Upper-right pin header is for programming the PIC. Lower-left pin header with three pins allows you to add a jumper to specify 5V or 3.3V. The adjacent 2x2 pin header allows one to enable/disable pull-up resistors on the SDA/SCL lines for I2C. Main pin header in lower-right corner connects to I2C/SPI pins of the microcontroller, as well as some GPIOs, power, and ground.
I wrote much of the firmware. This was done by downloading an application note from Microchip with sample code for implementation of a COM port device emulated over USB. I wrote a rather large state machine in C to read/write to/from I2C bus. This was successfully tested with an I2C EEPROM. SPI has not yet been implemented, due to lack of time and current lack of need/priority.
It's a simple board hardware-wise, but was very inexpensive compared to the $100 typical for similar off-the-shelf devices (although, the $100 devices tend to have more I/Os than just I2C/SPI, as well as pre-written SDKs, but that's more than I need).

I want to get at my RasperryPi GPIO pins - I made this little tester to prove than an old IDE ribbon cable does indeed short various pins and therefore can't be used for this purpose - not without modification anyway. It would Fry My Pi.

I have gotten far more comfortable with soldering than when I did it in college. Note that I didn't do any SMD (surface-mount) work -- I just soldered a lot of pins on these boards, and did the caps, resistor, and reset button on the Tinusaur.
Starting from top left: an AtMega32u4 Breakout Board, two Trinkets; one Tinusaur, and a Raspberry Pi GPIO breakout connector.
