I made this thing a few months ago, and it's been sitting on my desk ever since. I had just read an article on how to individually control lots of LEDs with a small number of GPIO pins, and I had a new MSP430 just waiting to be used.
All it does is start with a random pattern of lit LEDs, then plays Conway's Game of Life until they're off, it settles into a stable state, or a large number of iterations passes (in case it finds a stable sequence).
I think they seem to twinkle in the video because of differences between my camera's framerate and the dimming of the LEDs by PWM. There's extra holes on the back because the day I went to buy LEDs, the store didn't have enough, so I made do. I could upgrade it to 6x7 relatively easily, but never got around to it. Too many ideas for new projects. :)

Here’s my Raspberry Pi talking to my GPS module. It was very simple to wire and connect and the LVTTL pins of the GPS were well suited to the Pis GPIO pins. The only hurdle I needed to jump was learning to disable kernel and serial logging and then learning how to access the serial device. There was several decent tutorials online as my knowledge of Linux is almost non-existent.
I used other tutorials which used USB GPSs to install gpsd (a GPS daemon). I ran cgps and xgps and only needed to alter the device they accessed to use them.
It was a fun fast task but I’m not going to get a fix with this GPS in its current location. I’ve yet to work out anything portable.

2.8 inch Adafruit TFT touchscreen inserted into what used to be a novelty radio, running a bit of cobbled-together Python software in Raspbian on a Raspberry Pi B+ to display internet time/date, with weather and forecast from weather.com. The white stuff showing through either side of the screen is Sugru helping to hold it in place.
The mini iMac/Pi has wifi and requires only power to start up.
Help from too many internet sources to list here is gratefully acknowledged, contact me if you would like the details. Oh and thanks to my daughters who gave me the screen for Christmas!
PS The Pi is too big to fit in the "iMac" case. You can glimpse it on the left in the background, connected by a GPIO cable. I might make a stand out of Lego and stow it underneath, as the cable comes out of the base of the mini iMac, where the batteries used to be.

Part of my plan to make a low-power wifi-enabled magnetometer for AuroraWatch UK. This shield is designed for Calunium, but will work with full functionality on the Arduino Mega2560. It will also operate on a standard Arduino but flow control and some of the GPIO features of the RN-XV are not available.
The shield uses logic level translators on both the inputs and the output from the SD card. This means it can be safely used in situations where there are 5V devices on the SPI bus (eg MicroMag3), see blog.stevemarple.co.uk/2011/10/interfacing-33v-devices-to... for a discussion of the problem.
Eagle design files are available under CC BY-SA 3.0 licence at github.com/stevemarple/RNXV_SD_shield.
Now that you've finally got your hands on a Raspberry Pi, you're probably itching to make some fun embedded computer projects with it. What you need is an add on prototyping Pi Plate from Adafruit, which can snap onto the Pi PCB (and is removable later if you wish) and gives you all sorts of prototyping goodness to make building on top of the Pi super easy.
We added lots of basic but essential goodies. First up, there's a big prototyping area, half of which is 'breadboard' style and half of which is 'perfboard' style so you can wire up DIP chips, sensors, and the like. Along the edges of the proto area, all the GPIO/I2C/SPI and power pins are broken out to 0.1" stips so you can easily connect to them. On the edges of the prototyping area, all of the pins are also connected to 3.5mm screw-terminal blocks. This makes it easy to semi-permanently wire in sensors, LEDs, etc. Finally, we had a little space remaining over the metal connectors so we put in an SOIC surface mount chip breakout area, for those chips that dont come in DIP format.
The nice thing about this plate is we're getting custom header breakouts that are taller than usual, so that the proto plate sits above the metal connectors, out of the way and allows for plenty of workspace. We'll have stackable header kits as well for those who want to put multiple plates on top.
What is the Raspberry Pi? A low-cost ARM GNU/Linux box.
The Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in schools. The design is based on a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip (SoC), which includes an ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz processor, VideoCore IV GPU, and 256 megabytes of RAM. The design does not include a built-in hard disk or solid-state drive, instead relying on an SD card for booting and long-term storage. The Foundation plans to support Fedora Linux as the initial system software package/distribution, with support for Debian and Arch Linux as well - Wikipedia.
*Please note, we are currently testing this product with the shipping Raspberry Pi and will release it once it's ready! We have not set the pricing or ETA yet.
*If Raspberry allows us, we'd love to become a distributor. We've asked, don't worry :)
Sanguino is an open source Arduino-compatible microcontroller board that is based on the Arduino, and inspired by the Boarduino form-factor. It uses the atmega644P chip which has 4x the memory, ram and 12 more GPIO pins than the Arduino's atmega168.

This is my garage signal "control" box. Basically, there's a 40A contactor inside that box, controlled by the GPIO of a Particle Photon microcontroller. I have an IFTTT button that triggers the Particle to turn on or off the contactor, which goes straight to one of the duplex outlets below, which powers all the signals in the garage. The ammeter shows the current draw of my signals. Typically peaks between 7-8 amps! The Particle also powers the lights on the front of my garage, turning them on and off at sunset/sunrise, and will also control a bell I plan on wiring up eventually.
The USB4604 Evaluation Board (part # EVB-USB4604, $399.99) is available today that enables FlexConnect applications and allows access to the UCH2’s digital pins used in I2C, GPIO and UART bridging. This EVB also contains onboard SPI Flash that enables different revisions of the silicon to be evaluated on the same PCB. Well here’s Adafruit’s break out kit for the Raspberry Pi’s GPIO (General Purpose Input Output) pins. This of course means I need to learn enough Linux to control them and do something with them. Connecting the new GPS module from my other photos (GoodLuckBuy “Skylab GPS Module MT3329 SKM53 with Embedded GPS Antenna Arduino Compatible” SKU: 86236) might be something to try but using the serial port on the Pi looks hard.
