A candid snapped at the Rekawka Festival ground, a Slavic medieval gathering in Krakow, Poland. This little girl was one of the reenactors, I was passing by the tents of the medieval vendors when I noticed her lost in her thoughts, I am happy I managed to snap this pristine moment, such cinematic, emotive candids bear much more ethereal power than any posed, forced emotion, set up shot. When transferred into monochrome, the vibe of the photo got a 1960s flair and the sensibility and her hairstyle reminded me of the young Francoise Hardy, the French singer. Hence the choice of the background song.

A selection of my impressions snapped at the Ballinasloe Horse Fair (County Galway, Ireland), the oldest horse fair in Europe, held since the first half of the 1700s. It is a traditional meeting place of the Irish Travellers, who resemble in their lifestyle to the Roma (Gypsies), yet there are not genetically connected with them. Glimpses snapped during the bonfire night on July 11th and the Protestant procession afterwards in Belfast. They mark the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, when the Protestant King William of Orange defeated the last British Catholic monarch, King James II. Bonfires were lit to welcome - and guide - King William III the night before.

Glimpses snapped during the Savaria Historical Carnival in Szombathely, Hungary, mostly captured during the procession. The city was an important settlement in the Roman era, hence is the focus of the event on this period. The gladiator fights were one of the highlights of the event.

As I was passing along the stands and tents, I've noticed this reenactor girl crying, don't know the reason of course, but it gave a conceptual sense to the candid, one can add a superimposed storyline of their choice. A managed to catch a few further glimpses of her as the festival unfolded.

A first batch of my candid impressions snapped at Day 2 of the Surva International Festival of Masquerade Games in Pernik, Bulgaria, member of the Federation of European Carnival Cities. Surva is listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. "It is a ritual symbolizing the cleansing power of the new beginning with wishes for health and a bountiful harvest. Bulgarian masquerade rituals go back thousands of years to the earliest pagan times. Masquerade games were practiced as the new year took over from the old and during nature’s spring awakening. The message they conveyed was of banishing the powers of evil with wishes for health and fertility during what are known as the “dirty days” of the year." (Source: Ilka Dimitrova, www.bnr.bg) I´ve captured an immense amount of candids, about 10k, hence it is very hard to select the best snaps.
