Short answer: probably evaporative ponds for mine tailings or salt.
I wanted to know the walking distance from RPH to Burlesque Baby, Google Maps got confused and thought I wanted to walk to Queensland.
Check out what I seen on the way home today. It's a Google Maps (Street View) car chugging down Country Hills Blvd. here in Calgary.

大坪古道，柳杉林
過橋後直行，是寬大的產業道路，沿途有登山條指引。泥土碎石路，平緩好走。約五分鐘，出現岔路，右為保線路，登山條在左，於是取左行。路徑變窄，有竹林夾道，氣氛變為幽雅。前進約十分鐘，出現牛柵欄擋路，過牛欄，景觀丕變，竹林變為柳杉林，樹林內地表有翠綠蕨類，形成一整片綠色地帶。坡地則出現駁坎遺跡，附近有小溪，溪水潺潺，溪畔有小徑往下游走，溪對岸也有拓墾的遺跡。
我感到好奇，於是離開古道主徑，循溪畔小徑往下游探路，溪畔竹林漸多，附近有拓墾地。這地方位於溪谷處，有豐沛水源，地勢平坦，又有柳杉林，與平等里礁坑古道番婆厝附近景觀類似，應該已有相當的歷史了。只是林間並未看到石厝遺址，僅見零星的駁坎而已。
我回到主路徑，續前行。約兩三分鐘，在上坡路竹林附近，發現左側樹林裡有一石厝遺址。於是我切往樹林，來到石厝旁。石厝已頹毀，僅剩一面殘牆而已。殘牆上兩個正方形的窗戶還佷完整，房屋基址內，架屋檐的石柱，孤單佇立著。姑婆芋、草蕨、蔓藤，侵蝕殘屋，苔蘚將殘垣染成接近大自然的色彩，與周遭融成一體。經過的旅人，若只低頭注意腳步，恐怕不容易注意到這間隱密的石厝殘跡。

這一路至此，竹林、柳杉、溪澗、石厝，古道的氣氛愈為濃烈。往上走，路徑變為狹窄，兩旁樓梯草、草蕨遮掩路徑。泥土路徑則有殘存石階。約七、八分鐘，爬至鞍部高處。這裡有岔路可通往赤石六山。鞍部處較為平坦開闊，再往前走，就是下坡路。這裡是古道的最高點，也是適合休憩之處，古道若有土地公廟，這裡應是最佳的位置。我看見平坦之處，有一塊小凹處，似曾為某種基址，會不會這裡曾經有土地公廟，但已喬遷至山腳下了？
在此略休息，然後繼續前進。下坡路好走，走於雜木林中，不時可見林間駁坎，沿途亦多巨石。約十分鐘，漸至山麓，嗅到些許硫磺味。前面出現岔路，登山條紛歧，我往前走一段卻有路變無路。退回岔路口，才注意到，樹上掛的黃色塑膠條並非登山條，而是警告條，上頭寫著「危險勿近」。
這時才發現左邊有一模糊的路徑，因為越過乾涸的溪澗，所以路徑不明顯。轉入左岔路，往前走，出雜樹林，遠遠就看見一縷白煙自山谷冉冉升起，前面就是焿仔坪了。接著是芒草路，芒草雖高，但路徑清晰，陡下，約五分鐘，終於來到焿仔坪礦區的上方處。山谷間白煙繚繞，峰岩處嶙峋黝黑，山坡則樹木不生，全被芒草盤據；山谷處處有裸岩翻露，灰黑的礫土與黃泥土相混雜。遠處則有一產業泥土路於對面山坡蜿蜒而上，越嶺朝陽金公路的秀峰坪、天籟會館方向而去。

On the 22. of June we will start our US/Canadian holiday
2,094 km (about 20 hours 18 mins)
We should land in Vancouver about 4 o clock in the afternoon. Getting our luggage - getting the rental car, boarder crossing and so one could take some time. I guess we won't make it to Seattle the first day.
We have just 3 weeks so I wonder where to stop - where to spend time. I would love some advice here!
The dollar is for the time being quite cheap, but we are 5 persons, I hope not all our holiday money will go to the hotels. Good advice here??

WBRC-TV FOX-6 has installed a webcam on the Pickens County Probate Building on Courthouse Square in Carrollton, Alabama.
Oddly, the webcam's field of view (indicated in red) appears to be aimed to the west of the county's historic courthouse.
UPDATE: Checked back today (February 9, 2009) and the camera is aimed so that you can see the northwest corner of the courthouse.
