Top of the parliament building...you can see the gold-covered statue of Captain George Vancouver

This was taken during a road trip with some friends of mine. We went to the capitol building in Salem, Oregon. I took a picture of the golden man on top. That's about it.

Actually, it's the Luxembourg Pavilion. But we didn't know that walking in. By this point in the day, we were aimlessly walking about in our fatigue-ridden state, ending up in random lines, snaking towards unknown destination. It wasn't until we read the exhibits inside that we realized where we were.

The largest guilded statue in the world stood before me - 26 metres made from 300kg of gold and studded with precious stone like most religious artifacts such as the tomb stupas of the late lamas. It was Jampa, the Future Buddha housed in a small chapel in shigatse's tashilhunpo monastery that allowed swarms of sardined pilgrims who were jostling past me to complete their clockwise kora (explains the hard time trying to keep my hands steady for this shot). Many were throwing kathaks (prayer scarf) high up, others were frantically pouring yak butter into the lamps to make sure the light never goes out. I paid 75 yuan to the monks so I could take as many photos I want in the chapel - and I'm glad i did as this unsuspecting tourist was yelled at for trying to take a free shot!

After my doctor's appointment today, I waited around campus to meet up with Coral. I stumbled upon Pettigrew Park. Not sure if I've ever visited here before. I feel like I would've remembered this gold statue.

The building under construction in the back is, I believe, the new condos under construction - the whole "Cyan, Live Without a Trace" thing. Though I could be wrong.

Another mythological creature at the Grand Palace, Bangkok.

Perhaps the greatest technological achievement of Peterhof is that all of the fountains operate without the use of pumps. Water is supplied from natural springs and collects in reservoirs in the Upper Gardens. The elevation difference creates the pressure that drives most of the fountains of the Lower Gardens, including the Grand Cascade. The Samson Fountain is supplied by a special aqueduct, over four km in length, drawing water and pressure from a high-elevation source.
