Zhulin Buddhist Temple. Ottoway.

Although it is not directly recorded the first Buddhists probably arrived in Australia from China in 1851/52 with the news of the gold discoveries. The gold fields, especially in Victoria, had early temples and shrines and a couple still exist from the 1850s but Buddhist temples are relatively new in South Australia. Buddhism generally follows national lines in South Australia with Chinese, Laotian and Vietnamese temples but European Australians have followed Buddhist philosophy and practices since the 1950s. Immigrant groups of South East Asian since the 1970s have expanded the Buddhist communities in SA. The essential Buddhist message is about the nature of the human mind and the inner precious liberation that can be achieved through mediation, tranquillity, insight and after much progression and study nirvana. There are three main theological groupings of Buddhism in Australia generally but not exclusively following Indian/Tibetan, Chinese or Vietnamese/Laotian groupings. The Vietnamese Buddhist temple was established in 1978; the Laotian Buddhist temple was established in 1992; the Khmer Buddhist temple was established in 1989; the Sri Lankan Buddhist temple was established in 1996; the large Chinese Buddhist temple at Sellicks Hill was established in 2015; the Tibetan Buddha House was established around 1983. The Zhulin Buddhist temple was established in 1994 especially for the Chinese community. It is named after the world famous Mount Zhulin Buddhist temple in Taiwan. This ancient temple is known for its turned up corners on the roof and several layers of roofs and red pillars. This Mahayana Buddhism originated in northern India and was adopted by Han Chinese between 200 BC and 200 AD. In Chinese folklore all temples should have a pagoda and the Zhulin Temple at Ottoway is working on that right now. Most Buddhist temples are associated with a monastery for the training of its priests.

April 21, 2022 - "The Brabo Fountain (Brabofontein in Dutch) is a tribute to the mythical Roman soldier Silvius Brabo. According to legend, there was once a giant named Druon Antigoon who built a fortress along the Scheldt River. The giant forced passing boats to pay a toll, as well as anyone crossing the nearby bridge. If the travelers refused, Antigoon cut off one of their hands and tossed it into the river.

The giant’s reign of extortion came to an end when Silvius Brabo sailed down river. He refused to pay the giant’s toll, and challenged the giant to a duel. Brabo was victorious, and chopped off the giant’s head as well as his hand, which he threw into the river just like the giant once did.

According to folklore, the name Antwerp—or Antwerpen in Dutch— came from this very legend, with Antwerpen in Flemish and hand werpen in Dutch both meaning “hand throwing.” This has been contested by etymologists, but the legend nonetheless is much celebrated in the city, as evidenced by the fountain and Antwerp’s famous chocolate hands.

The sculpture of Brabo depicts the soldier as he throws the giant’s hand in the river, water spouting out of the severed wrist like blood. Brabo stands on a tall pedestal decorated with an array of creatures, including fish, a sea lion, a turtle, a dragon-like monster and some mermaids holding up a castle, symbolizing Antwerp. And beneath the feet of Silvius Brabo is the severed head of the giant Antigoon, the slain scourge of the now liberated river.

The statue was designed by the Belgian sculptor Jef Lambeaux and inaugurated in 1887. It was placed at the center of the Grote Markt, in a prime location in front of the city hall. Not only did it represent the legend of Silvius Brabo, it was also a symbolic celebration of the freeing of the Scheldt River. For more than a century, the Dutch had been demanding tolls from ships passing along the river, severely hampering the growth of Antwerp. Finally, in 1863, the Dutch stopped demanding tolls (with no dismemberment necessary), a cause for much celebration in Antwerp." Abused Abandoned Jungle Dogs.

Street Photography, Jungle Style.

Arrived at daybreak, Mama & Rocky came racing

through the jungle meeting me at the gate.

Licking, poking, jumping, leaping, barking, yelling

and general craziness happening all at once..... ;-)

Finally the gate was opened, bike pushed through

and soon we were all at the bingo room.

Did a quick check on Mama and Rocky looking for

any new damage, they both passed, only old stuff

was still visible. Special bags of kibble an hot-dogs

was prepared for our daily run to the spirit house.

Legs The Zoomer met us on the other-side of the

concrete walking bridge. Took a minute to interact

with the silly dogs living with the nuns then off we

went for our morning adventure at the spirit house.

Very few monkeys today, why you ask ? Well IMO

the temperature dropped quite a bit last night an

I think they were still high up in the jungle waiting

for the sun to come out . Once things warm up

they will all come marching down the jungle trails.

OK, Now lets talk about this photo ............................

As you can see Mr MIA DJ has returned and yes he

also has a number of lacerations, dings an divots...

Nothing to serious but still painful, and no infections.

Mr Leg Man is smiling knowing the bag slung across

my left shoulder is full of goodies just for The Hooligans.

FYI:

The 3 Stooges, Mama,Rocky and Legs The Zoomer are

all laying in a row watching The Hooligans go absolutely

bananas with wild anticipation for what's inside the bag.

After awhile Mama and I were back at The Dog Palace

where Mama was brushed, dings covered with antiseptic

cream an toe nails clipped, she's a happy dog now ..........;-)

Thank You.

April 22, 2022 - "Saint Charles Borromeo's Church, locally known under the Latin name of Sint-Carolus Borromeus, was built between 1614 and 1621 on instructions of the Jesuit order. Hardly a square foot was untouched by art works, and there are dozens of 17th century depictions of the church, it apparently being a popular travel destination at the time.

Among the art works, were 39 ceiling paintings by Peter Paul Rubens (his studio, and with assistance of Anthony Van Dyck), Antwerp's foremost and one of the world's most famed baroque painters. Unfortunately they have all gone now, after a fire destroyed them and many other works in 1718. The church was subsequently rebuilt and opened its doors again. Sketches of about half of the ceiling paintings by Rubens have been preserved and are distributed in various art collections around the world.

The church received its present name only in 1803, when the church became a parish church, after the Jesuit order was disbanded by the pope.

The facade of the church is impressive and is higher than the church building itself. It is inspired by the Jesuit's mother church in Rome, the Gesu, which was built some 4 decades earlier. The sumptuous decoration on the facade is partly attributable to Peter Paul Rubens.

The High Altar of the church is most remarkable. Behind the altar is a large chest which contains 4 different canvasses. With a system of pulleys, the paintings can be changed throughout the year, according to the liturgical religious year. Two of the original paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, were requisitioned by Empress Maria Theresia of Austria in 1776.

Impressive art works in the church further include two long rows of wooden confessionals, all with sculptures of angels in front. Wooden panels also depict the lives of two of the Jesuit's order principal saints : Saint Ignatius and Saint Francis Xavier.

The Lady Chapel on the right side of the church, is exuberantly decorated with marble, paintings and sculptures. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The painting 'The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary', a copy after Peter Paul Rubens, is displayed behind the altar. Also here, the original painting by Rubens, was 'purchased' by the Empress Maria Theresia in 1776. The ceiling relief in stucco was also designed by Rubens (who seems to have been a profligate designer as well as a painter).

Some parts of the church are only open on certain days (wednesday when we checked lately). They include the Sacristy, which is a repository for textile hangings and vestments from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Lace Room.

The tower of Saint Charles Borromeo's Church is not visible when you enter from the main facade. It is located along Sint-Katelijnevest, and dates from around 1617 to 1721. The splendid tower has only recently been restored.

Saint Charles Borromeo's Church offers outstanding baroque architecture, outside and inside. It is unfortunate that so many buildings have been built adjacent to the church, preventing it being viewed unhindered." Abandoned Abused Street Dogs.

Alright, before you go get-en all weird

on me read the story to the end.

This is real life in the jungle !

This all started with Little Stubby chasing a chicken.

Rooster is screaming and running as fast has his

skinny yellow legs could travel. 90 degree turns

were futile as Little Stubby was with him at every

turn. Soon Mr Rooster started using his wings and

got some distance between Little Stubby and himself.

By now the entire temple grounds is up in arms as the

two dozen monkeys that was right here had split, fast !

Mr DJ ran out into the fray, spotted Mr Rocky and Mama

headed his way, did a 180 and ran for safety in the cave

along with Mr Boo Boo.

You see Rocky, Mama and Legs The Zoomer all lined up

over on the right.

To the left is 2-Tone coming in on attack mode. Little Stubby

standing there playing all innocent while Pumpkin The Rascal

has launched herself onto Angel Eyes neck !

Now we'll backup a bit and I'll explain Pumpkins actions.

90% of the time Pumpkin The Rascal resides up on her

personal boulder for safety reasons. This is at the nuns

place which is about 100+ meters behind me.

When she heard Little Stubby screaming after Angel Eyes

bit Stubby on her butt for chasing the chicken Pumpkin

launched herself off the boulder and like a heat seeking

missile, came flying in and attacked Angel Eyes.

I've never seen Pumpkin be aggressive or move so fast ever !

Soon as 2-Tone bit Pumpkins butt both Stubby and Zoomer

attacked 2-tone who soon took off knowing she's in trouble.

Pumpkin continued to teach A-Eyes a lesson for biting her

friend Little Stubby. Mama & Rocky kept an eye on everybody.

When the dust settled Mama & Rocky walked over and stood

close to me. No need to check them over as they didn't enter

into the ruckus. Over the next 15-20 minutes all the other dogs

were check for any damage. What was found didn't amount to

much. Some missing fur, swollen bumps and hurt fragile egos.

This isn't alarming one bit cuz it's their way of blowing off steam.

What was unusual is to see Sweet Pumpkin the Rascal go

completely ballistic and attack Angel Eyes for biting her

friend Little Stubby. Never thought I'd see that from her.

Pumpkin is so sweet an kicked back all of the time.

Lets hope Angel Eyes got the message .. ;-)~

So if this photo offended you, it is what it is !

If you want a sterile safe environment then I

suggest a visit to the zoo for your safety.

This is another slice of very real life for the jungle dogs.

In two days we start in on the rabies inoculation program.

That my friends will take sometime, but it's well worth it..;-)

Thank You.

The Farnese Hercules (Italian: Ercole Farnese) is an ancient statue of Hercules, probably an enlarged copy made in the early third century AD and signed by Glykon, who is otherwise unknown; the name is Greek but he may have worked in Rome.

Like many other Ancient Roman sculptures it is a copy or version of a much older Greek original that was well known, in this case a bronze by Lysippos (or one of his circle) that would have been made in the fourth century BC.

The Alloys I.T and print and imaging distributor company based in Sydney's North Ryde is the latest technology based firm to stand out from the pack using human statues at their yearly showcase event.

I.T and print imaging distribution may sound moderately sexy, but with the addition of a golden painted and decorated human statue, their moderately sexy event came to life and achieved a real wow factor.

The human statue model mingled with management, distributors and other event attendees, showing off the various impressive information technology products and services on display.

Alloy's is committed to maintaining their position as one of Australia's most innovative and customer / distributor focused I.T companies, and their use of a human state model and campaign demonstrates their leadership and mindset to not just be average and be one of the pack - but rather to stand out from the pack, showing innovation, daring and creativity.

The statue campaign was effective as it helped attract more A list attendees, positive press, as well as generating positive buzz for the firm in the Australian I.T and distribution industry.

Alloy's continues to innovate in an ultra impressive fashion - be it with products, services, or with outside the box media and marketing campaigns. As their trademark saying goes - "The non traditional distributor".

April 22, 2022 - Statue of Anthony Van Dyke (1599 - 1641) located on the Meir the main shopping street in Antwerp, Belgium.

This is one of my most favourite statues in London. It is by Rudy Weller and can be found on the roof of the Criterion Building which is at the top of Haymarket on the left, leading off Picadilly. The trio are located directly above Weller's statue of the Horses of Helios.

I only found out later (September 2008) who actually produced this work. According to "London Above Eye level, by John R Murray" it is a Rudy Weller work called "Three Synchronised Divers".

April 22, 2022 - On the right is "Saint Charles Borromeo's Church, locally known under the Latin name of Sint-Carolus Borromeus, was built between 1614 and 1621 on instructions of the Jesuit order.

It is unfortunate that so many buildings have been built adjacent to the church, preventing it being viewed unhindered." Now the Americana central park court (or whatever you wish to call it) is ready for visitors to sit around, picnic, listen to music (whenever musicians perform there), and to see how much they can wear down the grass before November, when the Christmas tree and Santa's house returns.

Finally, in 1863, the Dutch stopped demanding tolls (with no dismemberment necessary), a cause for much celebration in Antwerp." Behold the breathtaking grandeur of the ten-faced Golden Puxian Bodhisattva at Mount Emei’s Golden Summit (Jinding). Towering over a vast sea of clouds against a brilliant blue sky, this sacred statue sits atop majestic elephants, marking the pinnacle of this UNESCO World Heritage site in Sichuan, China.

The most hidden, yet most graceful statue in London sits atop the Criterion Building at the top of Haymarket, on the left, just off Piccadilly. This was shot using a Canon G9 camera on zoom, on 2nd December 2007.

These statues are on the roof above the statue of the Horses of Helios.
