I first saw a picture of Kinkaku-ji, a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf when reading Steve Jobs biography a few months early. According to the biography, the gardens around Kyoto are the most sublime thing he had ever seen. So I had to visit and see for myself. There is a 2010 picture of Steve and his daughter Erin in the book where they’re standing at the same spot I took this picture. I hope to take my daughter Jenna here one day.

Thank you for taking the time to look at, comment on, and fave my photographs.

I created them before sometime in 2001!! They are 1.5 inch necklace purses. The base is super strong double sided tape!! lol.. They remain very flexible and hang nicely. Created using different sized teeny weeny beads and gold leaf.

The purse on the left is how it looks when it's on your neck. Purse on the right is open to show the inside, entirely made of gold leaf.

Ever since I made them, they've been hanging on the cork board over my craft room desk.. so I can stare at them!! lol.. Really. ;-) Now that I've take this macro of them, I see all the dust!!! But actually, for hanging around that long, they weren't too dusty.

Oh and I did not come up with this idea of a double sided tape necklace, but I create the design. Hope you enjoy seeing them. ;-)

The theme for Smile on Saturday for the 29th of May is “nothing in focus”. As soon as the theme was announced, I knew exactly the photo I wanted to use.

I recently took a short holiday to Victoria’s Alpine Region with some friends. As part of the trip, we took in the small township of Wandiligong. We were there very early on the morning of the 1st of May for a dawn photography walk to capture the autumnal colours in the brilliant morning light. One of my shots of the former Wandiligong Church of England was all blurred because of the brilliant sun rising in the east flooding my lens. I didn’t delete it because I personally quite liked it. It has some pretty bokeh, light and colours in it, even if it is out of focus. I never thought it would find its way onto Flickr, until the “nothing in focus” theme was announced! I hope that you like this photo for the same reasons I do, and that you have a smile filled Saturday.

Porepunkah is a town in north east Victoria. Built along the Great Alpine Road, at the foot of Mount Buffalo, it is 320 kilometres from Melbourne. It is part of the local epicurean region and features several wineries. This includes the Feathertop Winery which features a gourmet restaurant and views of wonderful grapevines which turn red and gold during the autumnal months.

It is outside the Feathertop Winery that this pretty row of deciduous exotic trees stands. They were too beautiful basking in the afternoon sun not to stop and photograph.

I loved how this yellow leaf in the late afternoon light, provided a burst of gold amongst the lavender haze.

SCOUT: "I think we are excellent at hiding Paddy."

PADDY: "I think you are correct Scout!"

Autumn is now well and truly with us here in Melbourne, and the cooler winds of seasonal change are blowing away the remnants of summer, like it tosses the red, gold and orange leaves that carpet the ground.

The other day was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs of the wonderful autumn colours in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. Of course I brought Paddy and Scout with me, and of course, they enjoyed the autumn leaves every bit as much as I did, albeit in slightly different ways!

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
