This is the start of another trip to Asia. This time, I was heading to South Korea. For those who don't know, Delta has quite the operation at Tokyo's Narita airport. A little history for you... This was all part of Northwest Airlines before the merger with Delta occurred in 2008. After WWII, U.S. airlines were allowed to start their own operations within the Japanese aviation market. Northwest took advantage of this opportunity and started a large hub at the main airport in Tokyo, Narita. Fast forward to today, Delta operates a significant hub that not only serves the U.S. mainland, but also flights within asia and the pacific. My routing was MSP-NRT-ICN (Minneapolis - Tokyo - Seoul).

- Day One -
I photographed some interior detail & decor of our lodge inside Good Medicine Lodge in Whitefish, Montana. This cozy place was our home during our visit...Such a wonderful place!
- Day Three -
Our adventure on day two led us all the way south through the Great Smokies and back. We enjoyed a relaxing night at Berry Springs Lodge and scouted out our adventure for the next day. Day three, we decided to head east, around the National Park instead.
We began in Gatlinburg, stopping at a few overlooks and admiring the town from above. We then followed Little River east, hiked at a few stops (Mom relaxed in her stone chair!), checked out Elkmont Campground, and eventually we made it to a man-made waterfall from the 1800s, "The Sinks".
We headed out of the National Park toward Townsend, a quaint little mountain town and onto Foothills Parkway, which skirted around the Great Smokies. It was a perfect road for bikers and sightseers. There were not many tourists at all but so many beautiful stops and overlooks.
One place in particular was Look Rock Tower, which was too high for Mom, but I had to check it out. I could see the highest peaks of the Smokies and an awesome panoramic view! After I came back down to find her, she had found some cool rocks to climb, lizards, and neat mushrooms for me to photograph.
We drove Foothills Parkway as far as we could, finally ending at Chillhowee Lake.
A small cafe/ice cream shop at the bottom of Pikes Peak. Filled with antiques and memorabilia, one thing caught my eye. There was a sign for a bus route in Philadelphia (my home city and where I currently live) that no longer runs. In fact, I didnt even know the route existed until seeing the sign.
Took these last year during a family trip - but a perfect time to upload them!

While five days is too short to properly explore the Faroe Islands, we lucked out with spectacular weather that made taking in the country's dramatic landscapes an absolute pleasure. While people often talk about the Faroe Islands as being very similar to Iceland, Scotland or Norway the truth is it is its own distinct destination with raw shoreline and distinct geological formations that make it truly unique to experience and explore.

First time to Singapore! Went with coworker Sterling.
We flew 767-300 SFO-NRT on Delta (yes Delta used to fly this route!) then Delta 777 NRT-SIN.
This was the first time I took a trip 'around the world.' All the flights were back-to-back with the exception of Singapore, which I stayed for two days.
After touring Palau, we flew to Guam and then on to Saipan. Guam is a 1.5 hour flight from Palau but only 25 minutes from Saipan.

Series: Shapes & Texture
This collection was gathered through many different photo opportunities throughout the years. I always felt these individual photographs did not quite match the original series or spoke to their location. Instead, as a collective, they each represent sort of a puzzle - whether it be from their shape, texture, or composition. After gathering numerous examples and keeping in their own separate folder, it became more apparent that they matched. The simplicity of form, similarity in structure, and two-dimensional visual led me to create this focused series.

Mini Series: Downtown
This series was photographed in March 2018. Ben, an old friend of mine, was in Maryland for work. He was helping set up and manage a new shop in Columbia. He had never been to Maryland before and asked to meet up. I had never personally been to Ellicott City before, but my parents were married there. They told me it’s a rustic town that I would love photographing, so I asked if Ben would check it out with me. The area we explored sits in the woods with a creek/river running right through main street. We roamed downtown - the bridges, alleyways, abandoned buildings, parks, and the old train station. It was a quiet and mysterious place, like a setting Ben or I used to write about when we exchanged our fictional writing to each other. The town floods frequently and many places were boarded up, but we did find some really neat antique shops and enjoyed exploring this dreary, ominous city.
After two days in Hong Kong, we're headed back to the airport. Next destination of the trip is South Africa!

- Day Two -
We left the highest point, Clingman's Dome, and continued downwards onto the winding, curving roads. Back onto 441, we followed Oconaluftee River southward. We pulled over along the way to admire (and photograph!) creeks, meadows full of wild flowers, and wildlife. We spotted numerous elks roaming.
We ended up getting "lost" down an odd little road full of small houses, domestic animals, and bizarre decorations; we easily turned back on track. Continuing south towards Cherokee NC, we made our next stop Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
There was a museum, a homestead wonderfully preserved, to show how families lived and survived in the mountains 100 years ago. My Mom was delighted and wonderstruck imaging life on the homestead; I tried my hardest to capture that moment for her!
