Holey Soles Walking Festival also known as North Leitrim Glens Walking Festival takes place in Co Leitrim every Easter. 2013 was my 5th year and it just gets better. The weather was mixed with sunshine and ice plus a little wind. This year we gathered in Glenfarne on Saturday April 30th and visited Tievbaun Mountain in Leitrim
We saw the site of 2 plane crashes from the 2nd world war .
On 21 March 1941, an RAF Catalina flying boat (AM265) using the Donegal Corridor crashed into the mountain at Glenade, Co. Leitrim on the east side of Truskmore. All nine airmen aboard died in the crash there is a plaque on the spot.
A B-17 Boeing Flying Fortress c 42-31420 crash landed on Tievbaun on the Sligo Leitrim border. This was a ferry flight from Goose Green to Prestwick on 9th Dec 1943. 3 of a 10 man crew died.
